As you’ve sold your moho you must have your “stuff” in the spare room I would imagine so you could weigh it? When you pick your new one up you need to weigh it with either nothing in the tanks and the Glenn or full tanks (fuel, water, gas) and the Glenn. This will give you your baseline weight. Then it’s plus you and your “stuff” remembering the said “stuff” is absolutely everything you carry. What is the minimum payload you would find acceptable / manageable?
Hi to you both what van are you looking at? Good luck with the change exciting times ahead. Thanks Peeps. We were used to having lots of payload on our old van. We've been looking at one with lots of bells and whistles but it leaves the payload tight. We think it will be around 500kg once we're on and have fuel and water. It would have to be up plated to achieve that but the seller is willing to do that. So just mulling it all over. I'm not keen on the faff of having to weigh everything that goes on.
Hi @Speve. Are you off bird watching?Hi to you both what van are you looking at? Good luck with the change exciting times ahead.
I should have added, that I have about 1200 kgs of payload as we do take clothes occasionally, never eat out, have a motorbike and the wife is overweightIf I were looking for a van with 2 people to travel in on normal European holiday for a couple of months, I would expect at least 500kgs before awning, extra battery solars etc and hope to have 350 kgs left (before wife diesel water cutlery clothing books maps etc) and then be able to take the wife on a naturist holiday where we ate out every night and showered on site. This should leave me with the ability to bring some wine back with me.
Hi Paul, your lovely van is like a pantechnicon. No way are we buying anything so big. Yes all our stuff is in the spare room. It may come down to weighing it all, but its not my style to be that precise. As you’ve sold your moho you must have your “stuff” in the spare room I would imagine so you could weigh it? Whatever suits you won’t suit others as your going to find out as this thread developes, you’ve seen our setup and we have 1600kgs of payload.
Wow Carolyn what if you decide to take on an extra bottle of gin, or indeed a slab of Christmas cake. I've not iced ours yet so could well still have it by May However if we buy this new van I may have to carry it on a trailer. We have never weighed the van empty but with us fully loaded for a trip so all our kit and full of everything water, fuel etc we are bang on 3500kg.
We have weighed ourselves on a local weighbridge and a roll over one in Norway and the same both times,
Same here, scarey isn't it!We have never weighed the van empty but with us fully loaded for a trip so all our kit and full of everything water, fuel etc we are bang on 3500kg.

We're looking at another Hymer
I prefer to describe it as ‘skilful’Same here, scarey isn't it!
Is this a stealth move on behalf of the NMC?If you tell mrjenben (via confidential pm ) what the van is you are looking at he will pm you with the info
No it’s from mrjenben himself who can be trusted not to share the info , he has his laptop at the ready all his Hymer info is to handIs this a stealth move on behalf of the NMC?
You don't need to weigh everything individually, just lump the smaller stuff into boxes, washing baskets, bags etc and weigh them, it shouldn't take much time to do so and then at least you'll know what your basic kit is in order to make an educated decision, without doing this you really don't have a clue.... all our stuff is in the spare room. It may come down to weighing it all, but its not my style to be that precise.
