We are getting an early Dover - Calais ferry in a couple of weeks time. Way back in 2012 we parked overnight on Marine Parade without problems. I have read about people getting tickets there these days.

Has anyone stayed on Marine Parade recently? We have stayed overnight at Harwich and Newhaven ports recently, shame Dover are not the same.

Paul

I don't understand the reason for getting to Dover, then parking up, then getting an early boat.. get there, get on , go over, stop. We do Dover Dunkirk , and stop in the terminal car park along with around 20 others.

We do the same, catch the tunnel and stay at Cite Europe for the night. Then early start to wherever in France???

We have done all sorts of routes etc stayed at Cite Europe etc but the early ferry from Dover (well 06.40) was the cheapest we could find.

As it was cheaper we're going over early afternoon, stop at cite overnight so wife can get her shopping fix then drive to Dusseldorf.

We always have gone over without stopping but this last time we got a daftoclock crossing cheap and looking on park4night, (y) found loads of places to stop, surprised really as folks are always coming on saying they can't find anywhere to stop.

If no parking on front...try a restaurant car park up Jubilee way...called Namaste. Or travel a touch further Canterbury Park and ride secure car park. Or if you want a little map location for a night message me and ill forward an image of a nice place to tuck away. ?

Listening to traffic reports this last couple of weeks you will be lucky to get to Dover. :D2 :D2 :D2

We never go to Calais, because we always are going east not south, and the Dunkirk boats are nicer , and cheaper , generally. And the food is far better.

We've got a 10.15 crossing 5 Sept, leaving on the 4th and overnighting at Canterbury P&R, gives us a chance to take on water and not worry about the state of the A2/M20 during the morning rush hours.

Going fully stocked and landing around 14.15, it should be a decent run to Neufchatel for the first night.

So you folk haven't stayed on Marine Parade recently then?
JJ
Pretty sure overnight parking is banned there now, but there are other places.
Try....

What everybody should do is contact Dover council before you travel and ask if there is any overnight parking available to enable you to arrive late and get to the ferry ports in the morning.

I keep warning about this there are specific sign saying cars and bikes only they have made rules to STOP vans parking there, but they still keep doing it and all along towards the East in front of the flats.. Be it on you own head if you do as the wardens travel about in a white van at night booking anything they see even around the inustrial areas where it does not matter.. The Gateway flats occupiers have loads of influence and the whole of Marine Parade and the esplanade has no parking for motorhomes.

That seems pretty clear, its Canterbury P&R for us then. Thanks GWAYGWAY .

Need get me a drive....and i would welcome any of you guys as live pretty close and would be great meet fellow funsters. Just got keep saving me pennies until I can afford a better gaff.

I've always just bought the cheapest ticket and then get whatever ferry comes into dock after I arrive, they don't seem to care what your official sailing time is as long as you have a valid ticket.
(Group of us used to drive to Germany a lot after work on a Friday, spend the weekend in Adenau. ????

There is a wonderful place for motorhomes beside the outlet centre de Bradlei Wharf, It is owned by the DHB but when I asked about setting an aire up there my letter went straight into the round filling cabinet in the corner. They never even had the courtesy to answer or acknowledge it.. Now perhaps if it was brought up in the local lodge???????????.

Does anyone know what this post means?

It means I battered my head against the wall trying to get the Dover Harbour Board (Dover Gods) to allow the, NOT USED ,area alongside the A20 and next to the De Bradelei Wharf Outlet centre, for motorhome parking. It is a large unused area for about 30 vans with drains and water, already there. I never got an answer at all from them so I was wasting my time. If you cannot understand what I wrote then read it again. Have a look on Google Earth and see what it is.

We used Marine Parade a Lot back in the 90`s/ 00`s. But that was pre 2007. Can`t remember the name of it but the big hotel bar got some trade as well!. The site GWAYGWAY mentioned?, A Company called M&P Marine appear to be using it. (not a lot) that was July 2018
