A few years now
@Debs helpfully suggested Lymington Seafood Festival (y) when we were looking for ideas for festival meets & although it looked a great option we couldn't organise it this summer as it clashed with Retro Newbury but agreed to give it a go for 2018 - sadly we will have to miss Retro Newbury 2018.
After contacting the Festival organisers, finding & negotiating with a friendly local farmer to offer us a camping field we are now posting this as a Fun & RVOC Rally!
Location is a large flat camping field behind Bamptons Farm, Lisle Court Road, Lymington SO41 5SH (postcode is not exact please see here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/50°45'32.2"N+1°31'23.8"W/@50.759015,-1.5225652,227m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d50.7589472!4d-1.5232664 ) with everyone arriving on Friday 10 August 11am-8pm at £32 per unit (maximum 2 adults) for 3 nights or 4 nights for £42 or 5 nights for £52. Departure time is midday.
This is within easy walking distance of Lymington town & Seafood Festival (Saturday & Sunday), Lymington Golf Club & the Wightlink ferry for day trips to the Isle Of Wight plus a short drive (7 miles) to Beaulieu Motor Museum with motorhome day parking available in their coach park.
Facilities are basic with three fresh water standpipes & an Elsan point with rinsing water supply.
Please bring black bin bags if you have any as all rubbish into black bags then drop in the trailer (next to the Elsan point) - these will then be put into commercial waste bags for disposal which is included in Rally cost . Bottles, tins & plastic into crates by the trailer for recycling.
We did look at full facility sites in the New Forest but crazy money in August! Hope that Bamptons Farm as a low cost option will enable more to come along
Access to the camping area from the road is good with a 16 foot gateway & no height restrictions so even ok for RVs !
Security - the farm entrance gate will be locked overnight from 10pm but we will have a key for emergencies & everyone will have our mobile number to reach us throughout the rally. Pedestrian access possible at all times.
Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead in the rally field & taken to the next field to be walked - this is the next one across. through the gateway at the top right looking from the field entrance.
Neighbours: Please respect the Lymington neighbours & no walking past or around the hay bales in our field.
Please note that BBQs (charcoal, wood or disposable BBQ or any others using liquid fuel, fire pits or similar) are now not allowed due to the ground conditions in the Rally Field at Lymington. Gas Cadac cookers or similar are ok well off the ground but please take extra care & maybe have your fire extinguisher in easy reach!
Bring a bucket - if possible please bring a bucket to fill with water & leave on the corner of your pitch as a fire precaution - not normally required but the grass will be tinder dry.
Generators can be used but only for short periods when necessary during the day but please let us know on arrival as you will be pitched away from any it might annoy!
Deposit required of £10 per unit with remainder of payment by cash on arrival.
UPDATE 1/8/18 - All those above have paid £10 deposit & to pay the balance due there are now two options - either have correct money in an envelope (no change given so any extra will be donated to Cancer Research UK) with your forum name & vehicle registration on it ready to pass out of the window on check in or (as many have requested this) you can pay now or up until Monday 6th August Midday by Paypal - more details will be emailed shortly.

UPDATE 9/8/18 - there is a Forest Tourist Bus service now from a nearby bus stop - not checked the details but it apparently it goes to Beaulieu & the New Forest (y)

***************************************************************

Friday
- Arrivals & invitation to all from 7pm onwards to come along with a mug or a glass full of your favourite tipple & gather in the "Meeting Area" . All very casual - bring a chair if you like or just wander around & chat to fellow members. No pressure to join in so those that would rather do their own thing then that's fine too. We will probably still be working until at least 8pm but once everyones in & we've eaten we'll be there too :hi5:
We hope to have two shelters (if needed) as we have just bought one to take along & thanks @Scout who will be bringing theirs too (y) If anyone else can bring anything like the Coleman Event Shelter to add to this that would be much appreciated - please let us know.

Saturday Day
Charter Market 8am-5pm
in Lymington High Street https://www.thenewforest.co.uk/whats-on/lymington-market-p788561 with stalls selling plants, food produce, general household goods, craft items and bric-a-brac.
Lymington Seafood Festival 11am-8pm http://www.lymingtonseafoodfestival.co.uk/ - take a walk over the bridge or the short hop train to sample the culinary delights & entertainment at this free festival & explore the town. Follow their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/lymingtonseafoodfestival/ for the latest info. about what's happening.

Saturday Evening - Meeting Area Social -
everyone is welcome to gather in & around the shelters, have a chat, sing a song or just fall asleep in a chair after a busy day!

Sunday Day - Bring & Buy
Sale 10am-Midday - all are welcome to bring your unwanted, craft or homemade items (cake? :inlove:) to sell in the rally field. Have started a thread https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...od-festival-rally-2018-items-for-sale.180099/ so items can be listed on there as well.
Either take a table to the end of your row (so on edge but not blocking the main fire lane) or to near the event shelters (from 9.45am for setting up) to make it easy for potential buyers to find you. Just outside your motorhome is also fine but if you aren't near lots of others selling then may be better to move nearer - it's a big rally field!
Lymington Seafood Festival 11am-6pm - more good food & music.

Sunday Evening - Meeting Area Social -
everyone is welcome.
Kindly organised by Pete & Shirley - Just For Fun Quiz. All welcome, a fun quiz at the shelters tonight at 7:45 for 8:00pm start. Bring a pen and something to rest on, join a team and have some fun.

Canoes - https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/lymington-rally-august-2018-canoes.162535/
Train Trip - take the train from Lymington Pier station (five minutes walk from the rally field) to Brockenhurst in the New Forest for day to walk or cycle? For anyone considering multiple train trips it may be worth considering a Railcard https://www.railcard.co.uk/ & The two minute shuttle train from Lymington Pier to Lymington Town is £2.30 per person each way before discount for those that don't want to walk. @Wildge suggested the Two Together card https://www.twotogether-railcard.co.uk/ as only £15 each (y) Also worth considering using Tesco Clubcard vouchers https://secure.tesco.com/clubcard/boost/search-results/railcard?search=Railcard if you have some spare & not saving them for Eurotunnel.
Dog Friendly Pub - a walk up Monument Lane takes you to The Walhampton Arms http://www.walhamptonarmslymington.co.uk/
Courtesy of the Seafood Festival organisers & the management of the pub - Funsters get 10% discount off food & drinks at The Walhampton Arms with code Funsters2018 & you need to show a Fun badge to confirm that you are members. Those who don't have badges (including RVOC members) please see us as will hopefully have some available.
Field Walk - from the field there is a 3 hour circular walk that goes along the seashore east, then north up Tanners lane with maybe a stop in the East End Arms Pub :drinks: http://www.eastendarms.co.uk/ then back west through Pylewell Park, past the cricket pitch and back to the field.
The Sea Wall Walk & Nature Reserve - just a ten minute stroll from the town centre and a few hundred yards from the festival site is the sea wall walk across the salt marshes towards Keyhaven.
The Sea Water Baths - just a few metres from the festival site at Bath Road are the Lymington Seawater Baths which are the oldest open air sea water baths in the UK with an inflatable obstacle course , a safe enclosed environment for paddle-boarding & of course swimming.
Think that's all folks! :giggle: If anyone has any other ideas then you are very welcome to add these too (y)

Seriously - this is a lovely town which has a great Saturday street market.

Plenty of places to get out & about with the van & easy parking.

The New Forest is very close - by train or in the van(y)

We are hoping to have a special member discounted price for activities at Lymington Golf Centre http://lymingtongolfcentre.co.uk/ whilst camped just a short walk away. I'm not a golf fan as never tried it but tempted by the New Forest Adventure Golf as it looks fun:

Do we have to bring our own bats. Lol.
Just checked - they have golf clubs to hire (will try to get good rates agreed) or maybe a friendly Funster could share if playing together?

For anyone who has Tesco Clubcard vouchers they cover for the Wightlink ferry https://secure.tesco.com/clubcard/boost/wightlink-isle-of-wight-ferries/UK-004657.prd which is just 5 minutes walk from the camping area. If they do cover fares as a foot passenger http://www.wightlink.co.uk/go/tickets-prices/tesco-clubcard/ (not sure so worth checking before converting) then cheap way to have a scenic boat trip or to explore the Isle of Wight - can take your bike for free too. Haven't managed to figure out the bus timetables yet either to see if possible to go from Yarmouth by bus then all around the island - if anyone knows then please post here.
I went as a child but hardly remember it so would like to see if it's worth a meet or rally on the island another time.
