Wife wanted to go to famous Betty's café in York what a let down from the last time we went there , almost Tasteless Scones/ Jam , Tea, which they are famous for and overpriced , Didn't realise many Locals agreed with us.

I thought the famous Betty’s was in Harrogate clearly they are on more than one site

Went to the Betty's in Northallerton, about 8 of us in our cycling gear, the sight of the bill brought on an Asthma attack ;)

Went again in Harrogate and what a disappointment never again yet they queue up outside in York, even in the rain:D2

Just a trap for the tourists, keep the cash rolling in!

It's a really bad reflection to overseas tourists. I've often thought how pathetic as I've walked passed the queue :X3: and while ever there are queues they'll keep the prices up and up

There is no such thing as a "but" when talking about Yorkshire. I agree that Betty's prices are ridiculous but I only go to York when going to the hospital. Park at Designer outlet, bus pass into York then a walk to the hospital via Betty's.

doing the same thing twice and being amazed at the same result ???????????????

Yep, have to agree both Harrogate and York very disappointing

Lived in Yorkshire for a long time, never been to Betty's (to tight).
Cannot believe the queues waiting outside ,the staff handing out menus and the cost . More money than sense.

:D2 I didn't 3 for third time lucky though, Northallerton was OK actually apart from the bill for 2 cups of coffee and a fat rascal, it was Harrogate that put us off completely.

I’m also too tight to go for a cup of tea anywhere I have to pay (rather take a flask) I have seen the queue outside Betty’s in York just before NYE and thought their tea and scones must be on offer (cheap).
Nobody has said how much it costs, I’m intrigued now!!

I just looked at the menus on the website. No Yorkshireman would pay them bloody prices

We've always given Betty's a wide berth but last time we went Knaresborough we popped over to Harrogate and bit the bullet. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. I know it wasn't that expensive or I would have remembered how much it was.
That other "famous" Yorkshire institution, Harry Ramsdens is another kettle of fish altogether. We went to the original one during the day between Christmas and New Year and despite it being freezing we were made to wait outside. What made it worse was the fact that they were only using half of the restaurant so could have easily let us in to wait in the warmth of the other side. Then when we finally sat down to eat, all I can say is that I have had far better fish and chips at our local chippy.

It was sold out about 20 years ago. The quality dropped dramatically.
Never went back.

As a kid it was a special treat to go there.

Expensive rubbish akin to the re-packaged marks and spencer food, a disgrace to Yorkshire.
