Some prat has lost his water cap after filling up in France - - obviously someone stole it 'cos he isn't that stupid to leave it behind.

I believe the name for a replacement cap is 'Bouchon de Camping Car' but before I call at a local Caravan/Motorhome dealer in Chartres tomorrow I'd be grateful if a French speaking helpful person on these forums could confirm that.

Any help appreciated.

Why not put what you want to say into google translate? You can then read it out if the person on the other end doesn’t speak English.

Yes bouchon de camping car will get you what you need.

We are parked up overnight about 10 minutes from the dealership and will call there on our way out of Chartres tomorrow.

Thanks for the helpful replies mes amis et amies

We always keep a DVD of all the episodes of 'Allo 'Allo on the motorhome so we can refer back to Office Crabtree for correct pronunciation, it's got us by ok so far. :D

Ah well , missed you... but ... why on earth didn't you give me a shout on here!?
Anyway, if you don't feel like giving a call tell me the dealer's phone number ,and i'll make the call for you.
Of course don't forget to tell me what MoHo you have. ;)

EDIT:Out for about 15 minutes so won't be able to reply until back

Just show him what you need

That's ok ,but try to say it without the Scots accent.:rofl:
Jim, I would precede with "See you Jimmy, bouchon de réservoir d'eau pour camping car, s'il vous plait?" And if the dealer says "Non", I'd reply, "Stitch that yae ken", accompanied with a forward head lunging movement, exercising good communications Ecossaises. (y) .............................

Jock. ;)

Take a pic on your phone

Buy a temporary/emergency fuel filler cap if you can't get what you want easily. Or just wrap a wooly sock in a plastic bag and stuff that in - but I'd tie a bit of wood to it so it can't go all the way in, or attach a bit of string and secure the other end to something, for example trap it in a window. :)

I've covered the hole with Gaffer tape to stop water getting out and anyone putting something they shouldn't in.

Bright and early tomorrow morning after baguettes and breakfast (about 11 o'clock) I shall drive the short distance to the dealers and peruse their shelves to find one or be brave and actually ask for a cap.

Your inputs have been a great help and the idiot who failed to put the water cap on after filling up has had a polite but sturdy b*llocking and he won't do it again, be assured.

If they say, "Désolé monsieur nous n'avons pas en stock mais nous pouvons en commander un pour vous" It means, "Sorry sir we hve none in stock but we can order one in for you" But I think you might be fine. If they really don't have one you might find a temporary petrol/diesel filler cap from a garage will fit especially if helped with gaffer tape.

Could I respectfully suggest that the OP, keithchesterfield2 put the below into the search facility.

Modesty forbids (Oh! alright, it was me) posted the below in 2016.

Highly recommended. It has prevented me from leaving said cap on a wall, post or other convenient place when getting water.
However, it hasn't prevented me from being tooted, hailed and pointed at as I drive along, ignorant of the fact that the filler cap is flapping in the slipstream when driving.

It was attached to the van by a metal chain but after the filling operation the idiot forgot to put it back in the inlet and it was left dangling.

The road into the French town was nearly as bad as a Belgian road and hammering down the nearby Motorway probably jolted the cap from it's mooring - never to be seen again.

Luckily the Borne where the Motorhome was filled was free so at least that's a bit of good fortune, isn't it ?

So my idea worked the ,. Cheers.

I have just looked in the Narbonne catalogue and they have / had two offerings, one without a lock and the other with a lock and 2 keys - Bouchon a clé Zadi where Zadi is the maker of the lock. On offer at about 17€ (I only have the 2018 catalogue) The part number (for white) is 026094.

Just checked their web site, price is shown as 16€30. See https://www.narbonneaccessoires.fr/...ment-reservoir/bouchon-a-cle-026094-zadi.html

Assuming you are at the Chartres to the northwest of Orleans, then you want the agency at S.L.C., RN123, Parc Euroval, 28630 Fontenay-sur-Eure. GPS N 48deg 25min 18sec E 1deg, 26min, 41sec

I hope this is of some use
