Spent a few weeks touring Australia and New Zealand about 10 years ago...
I am at Cite Europe waiting for the tunnel. My wife came in from walking the dogs and told me she saw a red trainer sticking out from under the van. I checked and sure enough there it was, connected to a leg. I greeted the poor bloke and he untangled himself and got out. He was over six foot but looked rather sheepish. I spoke to him in French and English but he didn't say anything, I wanted to know if any one else was still underneath. There doesn't appear to be any damage. I wanted to call the police (although I doubt they'd thank me) and my wife wanted to give him some money so we compromised and just let him walk off. I will tell the other vans here as I wouldn't be surprised if there were more of these rather sad people around.

No’s1 & 2 sons always wear top of the range trainers when running marathons, they always have the silly colours like pink or peach, because they get them cheap as know one wants them. Their mother taught them well.:gum:

To be honest, in all the excitement I didn't notice what type of trainer he had!

What if you had been going south and next stop was 3 hours away from Calais. (y)
:rofl::rofl:

Well he did bark at 4.30am but it was a single woof which he usually used to request a comfort break. I let him out and he didn't indicate anything so I guess the guy has heard the dog and left at that point but came back later and more quietly...

He was probably doing something quite innocent like dispensing a can of knock-out gas through your floor vents.

:D:D:D:D

He was a highly skilled engineer checking your suspension geometry for you.

A selfie stick with a van mirror on the end might be a good idea for checking the underneath of your van. Back in the day i used to deliver to various barracks at Aldershot, I always checked the underneath of my van when leaving the delivery prior to the barracks just in case, you can't be too careful.

Do check at Caen, as they have moved there thinking it is easier, but there are too many to hide in the area without the police noticing them all.

A 25mtr long 300mm deep drive-through sheepdip filled with bright blue dye.

If they don't drown going through they come out looking like a Smurf and easy to spot.
Job sorted.
What a brilliant idea-wouldn't take much setting up-not sure about the dye though .

ha ha, no Bill but I am at Cite Europe tomorrow night though... may be it was one of my brothers getting his days wrong and surprising me.
I always wonder though to be fair what if he was going south could have woken up in Spain.

Why do think he thought you was going back to the UK and not onward through France?

I'm sure I read on here of someone with an extra "passenger" who was going south. The passenger alighted when the van stopped and started to walk back toward Calais.

Cheek! I paid extra for my purple ones.

Hmmm ... red trainers ... now which funster used to love his red trainers ... perhaps he's trying to get back to the UK from Hades! :D

He didn't, lucky guess. There were at least three vans which were heading south out of the dozen there...

Are you sure you didn't knock the guy over when you parked-up?
:)
