The latest addition to the family. A ten week old Cocker bitch. Just got to get her trained enough to survive a month long trip to Slovenia and Croatia in September. Just enough time to get her passport organised before we go.

We've had a few working spaniels over the years but I always forget just how energetic they are. As the older ones get older and slow down it's easy to forget what a young spaniel is like. I love their personality and energy but it isn't half knackering...

Don't wish to put a damper on your proposed trip (lovely pooch BTW) but what are you doing about rabies protection. We were told by our vet that she wouldn't do an anti-rabies jab before 6 months old.

We took Millie to Italy when she was 5 months old with no problem receiving the rabies jab before we went.

Always keen to hear how other Cocker owners are getting on. Here's Roly at 7 months. Mad as a box of frogs and starting to challenge us more. First Cocker I've owned and I was not expecting it :D2

Beautiful colour coat @awg (the dog)

I find tying a couple of pounds of lead to each leg slows them down a bit :D

We had 3 cocker spaniels, once took them away to the Yorkshire Dales along with the in laws cocker spaniels. Wife was 8 months pregnant at the time and we were in our first caravan a 10ft ancient Ace. We had a great time, a bit like the famous caravan scene from Father Ted. Now we have a 2 yr old Welsh Terrier who is absolutely gorgeous but the hardest most difficult dog to train. But we love him to bits so do others, constantly stopped on our travels by people asking about his breed and commenting on how beautiful he is . We are also hopefully heading to Slovenia and Croatia this September.

We lost our last Old English Sheepdog in March, he was our third and thought he would be our last. The thought of raising another puppy was too daunting. Then in late March we found Ziggy ( pictured above )a four year old OES whose lovely owners could no longer give him the attention he needs. We were lucky enough to be chosen as his new owners.

He is a fantastic pal, well trained and with plenty "spirit".

We would thoroughly recommend rehousing as an option to having a puppy.

You have my sympathy. I'm still recovering from having a puppy Newfoundland. He is now ten months old and beginning to become a bit more easier. Sometimes I think we have more than one as everywhere I turn he is in front of me blocking my path. Wouldn't be without him now, although we don't take him with us yet in the Motor home as he is too much hard work. But he is getting there.

My elderly mother, when considering getting another dog, was told "old people need old dogs"; I cannot disagree!
I'm quickly coming round to that way of thinking. Not sure I can do this again in another 6 or 7 years (I work my spaniels and normally have one young and one older at any given time.

They can get the rabies injection at 12 weeks and are protected 3 weeks after that so we should be ok. Whether she's ok in a dog crate in the motorhome by then is a different matter.

Spaniels are most definitely an acquired taste but I wouldn't be without one.
