The fan on our in door SOG has packed up again, the last time I bought @Techno’s spare but that’s now stopped working.
Any suggestions for replacement?

I’ve stripped fan as much as possible and sprayed with contact cleaner and the silicone spray and it’s working again, but for how long!

In my experience, not very long. In the end, I simply replaced mine with a small 12v computer fan on the same footprint as the fixing to the door and found it to be a bit too strong so simply throttled it a bit by covering part of the fan housing with electrical tape, reducing the airflow. Works well

don't buy the cheapest computer fan, go with a good brand and it will last years rather than months

If it's a little 50mm fan you can slow it down with a 100 ohm 2w resistor in series...

Or the bigger 120mm fans need about 50 ohms 2w:

Never thought of that, but then again, ducks don’t do elektrickery - something to do with all that pond water. Thanks, useful tip

I’d be asking why they keep failing.

I don't understand why you would want to restrict it. A couple of years ago I converted my through the floor SOG to a roof vent and modified the extraction to take it out via the Thetford vent so no silly pipe to unplug. Worked fine but as I also had the Thetford parts around (came with the van) I fitted their fan under the cassette as well a bit noisier but works a treat with a much bigger airflow than with just the SOG fan.

Well, I was trying to match the throughput of the original SOG - too fast and the carbon filter is not able to do its job was my thinking, bearing in mind that the outlet is on the awning side. I also have the Thetford floor fan but it is very noisy and reserved for post curry use only. Both were with the van when I got it.

Roof vent is far better no filter to worry about but you do get your own back if the rooflight is open with the wind in the wrong direction.

Not possible in my van unfortunately

What size is the fan Nick, as I have a few knocking around.
Rough size.

We have a pvc Lenny and are gonna get a SOG the through the floor looked the best option for us as a normal door sog wouldn't work with us as the cassette door is right behind one of the vans rear doors.
Anyways I ruled out the roof sog as I didn't wanna drill "another" hole in the roof , so now I'm interested to know why you changed from a thought the floor sog , what was wrong with it that you didn't like.

Through the floor ones work much better than the door ones. They say you only need to change the once a year but if if you don't want it pongy outside really needs changing every couple of months. Filters are £25 a pop, I refilled mine with active charcoal pellets cost about £4 a time. You still tend to get smells outside roof ones are just so much better. I only cut a 25mm hole for the vent & used Stika to mount it didn't use any screws.

Lenny HB thanks for the info , does the roof one have a filter in it? Also I take it you can refill the through the floor filters with aquarium charcoal

No filter on the roof one.
Aquarium charcoal that's what I used drilled a 20mm hole in the side and plugged it with a wine bottle cork.

I investigated my non working through the floor Thetford effort today. It is indeed defunct but I was surprised at the fan. It is only a titchy 40mm one so surprised it produces enough airflow to make a difference. Anyway I've ordered a replacement, Chinese of course but so was the original.
Can anyone tell me, does the flap have to be open for it to work ,or just the flashing fan on the flush button?

Fan on, open flap, unload, close flap, leave fan running until it times out and stops. (y)

You will be disappointed if the replacement fan you ordered is not a direct like for like replacement as the original fans run at about 12,000rpm and the same size computer type fan only runs at about 2,000 rpm.

The one I ordered claims over 6 cubic feet per minute. I assume the high speed is why so many complain that they are noisy. As I have somehow survived for many years without a SOG or equivalent I won't be that bothered if I don't get it working.

Farnell sell one the same as the SOG one quite a bit cheaper but still about 60 quid.

I wish there was a way to 'convert' a domestic loo to have a SOG ... especially after hubby used it this morning!
