In my experience, not very long. In the end, I simply replaced mine with a small 12v computer fan on the same footprint as the fixing to the door and found it to be a bit too strong so simply throttled it a bit by covering part of the fan housing with electrical tape, reducing the airflow. Works wellI’ve stripped fan as much as possible and sprayed with contact cleaner and the silicone spray and it’s working again, but for how long!
Never thought of that, but then again, ducks don’t do elektrickery - something to do with all that pond water. Thanks, useful tipIf it's a little 50mm fan you can slow it down with a 100 ohm 2w resistor in series...
Or the bigger 120mm fans need about 50 ohms 2w:
I don't understand why you would want to restrict it. A couple of years ago I converted my through the floor SOG to a roof vent and modified the extraction to take it out via the Thetford vent so no silly pipe to unplug. Worked fine but as I also had the Thetford parts around (came with the van) I fitted their fan under the cassette as well a bit noisier but works a treat with a much bigger airflow than with just the SOG fan.In my experience, not very long. Well, I was trying to match the throughput of the original SOG - too fast and the carbon filter is not able to do its job was my thinking, bearing in mind that the outlet is on the awning side. I also have the Thetford floor fan but it is very noisy and reserved for post curry use only. Both were with the van when I got it.I don't understand why you would want to restrict it. Roof vent is far better no filter to worry about but you do get your own back if the rooflight is open with the wind in the wrong direction.Well, I was trying to match the throughput of the original SOG - too fast and the carbon filter is not able to do its job was my thinking, bearing in mind that the outlet is on the awning side. Or a big jobbie .....Must of been a big job.....
Not possible in my van unfortunatelyRoof vent is far better no filter to worry about but you do get your own back if the rooflight is open with the wind in the wrong direction.
Rough size. What size is the fan Nick, as I have a few knocking around.
Anything is possible with a big enough hammer. Not possible in my van unfortunately
We have a pvc Lenny and are gonna get a SOG the through the floor looked the best option for us as a normal door sog wouldn't work with us as the cassette door is right behind one of the vans rear doors.I don't understand why you would want to restrict it. No filter on the roof one.Lenny HB thanks for the info , does the roof one have a filter in it? Also I take it you can refill the through the floor filters with aquarium charcoal
Not what I was expecting.Rough size.View attachment 637978
I think I could screw elbow onto a 40mm fan.Not what I was expecting.

Cheers, ordered one to try from Amazon so if it’s not good enough I can returnThis is the company that I use for our fridge fans Nick.
They list the both the CFM and noise levels for each fan.

I investigated my non working through the floor Thetford effort today. It is indeed defunct but I was surprised at the fan. It is only a titchy 40mm one so surprised it produces enough airflow to make a difference. Anyway I've ordered a replacement, Chinese of course but so was the original.
Can anyone tell me, does the flap have to be open for it to work ,or just the flashing fan on the flush button?
