As a few may know I (hopefully) have the handover of my new van tomorrow, can anyone chip in with any things I should ensure I check, and if necessary ways to check. Also I have never driven the van is this something that should be done at handover?

All experiences appreciated, could be things you missed or wished you had asked when you got yours ?

Thanks,

Thanks Jim, still looking for any other little hints and tips but downloaded yours and will be read before tomorrow, THANKS ?

Check your grey water tank actually opens and closes fully (mines was seized in the open position).

Check your wardrobes all close properly and the hinges are all properly screwed in.

Check your oven/grill/fridge actually works without fluttering and blowing itself out.

In fact check everything electrical especially drop down bed if fitted.

All this is especially important if you are buying it from a dealership a long way from your home.

But most of all, check you grey waste for haggis nests!

What the hell is a haggis nest and how do you see in the tank to check?

The worst handover we had was Brownhills, although for years we knew what they were like, so well prepared but they caught me out.............. remember this was not our first motorhome and we had a caravan in the early 80's, everytime I asked a question, the chap that I can only imagine was someone that washed motorhomes and swept the yard ? cut me short even to the extent of getting upset with me attaching my gas bottle to check everything worked, saying it's been checked yet he knew nothing about the motorhomes, and we did not want a long journey home to find things not working, also things had been nicked off the motorhome, that they denied even though we were showing photographs of it when we viewed it, ? that's when the fight started. ? Bob.

Thought you said it wouldn't be ready,,BUSBY.

Its a nest that a haggis will live in 596,bit like a rats nest, but made of rabbit skin(fir on the inside),If there is a haggis living in the van they can be buggers to catch, they're so fast & can change colour & shape to suit their environment.
good luck with your new purchase

Walk around the outside and check the corners for scuff marks, especially around the front bumper sides etc. Any dings in The body shell?

Since you'll be spending 6 weeks a year in hot weather (which you don't like) check that the fridge will get sufficiently cold to make ice cubes.

The tyres are new (the originals weren’t suitable so he had new ones fitted).

Think he is collecting the van from Fantasy Island.BUSBY.
What is it with you miserable beggars?
A perfectly reasonable question by 596 asked in a perfectly reasonable way.
Yes there may have been a lesson to be learnt when he first started on here but from what I've seen lately the lesson has been learnt so why not leave the chap alone?

It comes with 3 years as standard incl recovery, I am upgrading by another 2yrs (about £550 or so) to the max of 5yrs total, This also gives you breakdown cover EU wide although I also have ADAC so don’t need it ?. I went for manual as I don’t like the robotic auto and have wondered if I actually needed it, but you know what for a few quid more why not, belt and braces!

Don’t worry, it is exposing certain peoples real characters, although I am buying a humble van (Compared to what I could have bought and others on here have bought) seems some people have the green eyed envy, I had my last one for 9yrs so I am no poser I can assure you and would not have bought a new one without good reason all on here should now know, I have also changed my Reg to an 04 so as not to identify it as new, all I want is a tool to do the job, end of, it’s just a unit as I am but a number ?

Perhaps people are fed up being insulted.

Clearly you have not read this thread.

I am ditching the Yusa 100amp that comes with it and fitting 2 x new 110’s I have bought that are brand new and match, one will go in original spot other is being fitted under the passenger seat when the swivel seat is fitted, it has a battery box and metal bracket also being fitted. I have just had 2. Brand new 121 load rated Michelin Agilis All Seasons fitted on the rear, sold the new take offs to a forum member, have my pressure gauge with me so will check pressures, tanks fill levels run through the command system, I am having the software updated as I went to the Sargent desk at the NEC and got details of the latest version which should be 40 30 for anyone interested ?. Thanks

What about test driving it, I have the upgraded engine to Fiat 2.3 150PS, no idea how sluggish a 130PS would have been so hard to compare, my old van was a solid 2.8JTD what should I expect. I have also have Sat Nav fitted, how does that update, any ideas? One for the handover I guess.

It isn’t but what option do I have now everything is in place, my option tomorrow is to collect but retain more than enough funds until the tow bar is fitted and recall done at my home, air suspension being fitted Friday together with other bits ?

At the very least, check you can put it into reverse. This is different in different vehicles, and you might find out you don't know halfway through a 3-point turn:oops:
