Had a request for a local "Campsite"....

A friend who want`s to come and do a bit of fishing asked me if there are any campsites near our Holiday abode...

Found this one, 15 - 20 minutes walk from us along the coast or 4 minutes drive...

Reviews are not very good..... but.... they have been spending a lot of money on a new entrance and infrastructure (So I have been told, so may be a lot better now... photo`s look busy, so must be popular. .)

We lived there for a couple of months 38 years ago when we were between houses (sold one and completed the sale but the house we were hoping to buy fell through the day we were supposed to exchange contracts - we didn't want to lose the sale on the house we had so went ahead knowing we would be homeless for a few weeks). It was tatty but cheap then but that is a long time ago. I would go and have a look before you book (when it is safe to do so of course).

Mo, have a look at some of the feedback on the site ... it's not good!

There used to be an affiliated site down at Wansbeck but I think it may have gone.

We would like to find a reasonable site around Ashington as we always end up on friends driveways.

It opens 6rh July and for a grass pitch with electric is £44 for 2 nights for a MHome with up to 4 peeps, dogs £2 extra. No gazebos awnings or twin axles.

Don’t worry about what it is like. They are coming to spend time with you, not spend time in the campsite, so they will just want it to be local. And they clearly have no taste as they know you (I’ve read your jokes), so a crap campsite will be ok.

Ha, I cycle through there after my nightshifts!

It's now owned by Park Dean resorts and they've spent a lot of money on the place - it looks a lot tidier than when I used to fish at the wansbeck and pop up to the caravan site fish n chip shop on the way home 'cos we never caught anything worth eating!

Whilst I live in Ashington, I'd never recommend anyone to stay here, and recommend that they continue either up the coast to Seahouses Seafield site, or if cmc members, South to New Hartley site with views of St Mary lighthouse

We were going to have a run out there today with the dog for a walk around.. (Exercise.. ..)

But it rained...

Perhaps next week..

As promised had a run out to the lake this afternoon... (Bit later than I said I would.. .)

It`s a "Premier Inn place and they have a large car park... but adjoining that is a Free public car park with seats along side the lake..

There were three motor homes and two looked like they had been there a few days..

Could not see any signs about not parking over night... (No facility`s at all... but Premier Inn must have toilets..)

I will ask some time if they allow parking on their car park for M-homes perhaps they will say yes providing you buy a meal... Will let you know once they are open..

The lake is huge..... must be a mile or two if you walked round it... I did a few hundred yards and had to call it a day as I did not have my air thingy with me, so Judy drove me home...

First time Daisy has seen that sort of water... Went down to the water`s edge and she was gone...

Just as well I had her 10mtr lead on her other wise she would have been across the lake chasing hundreds of birds...

Anyway a beautiful spot and would be great as a stop over due to the railway and the museum being near by...

Couple of photo`s..

1st one Daisy`s first ever swim..... we never let her go in the sea as she drinks the sea water and is then sick as a dog..

2nd one..Premier In and the public car park to the right... you can just see one of the m-homes parked up.. and another two on Premier inn`s car park.... the public car park is very large..

3rd one... One bedraggled dog... that was not happy about being dragged out of the lake..

If one of those campervans was a white iveco pvc, then it's been there on and off for probably at least the last 8 weeks!

I drove past just before 7 this morning and I reckon there was at least 30 cars there already, and the Motorhome too

Thought they had been there awhile with all the stuff they had around...

Too much for just day trippers..
