Gas bottles and payload

Payload is normally the term given to all the added extras after basic fit and manufacturers and dealers are notorious for over exaggerating how much "Payload" you have. However, as @matamoros has stated above, the only figure you really need is your final weight and the weight over each axle. If you know this, then payload is immaterial and you just subtract 6 x 6Kg and add 1 x 11Kg. Just keep below your max gross weight

Quick question.
Are gas bottles part of payload?
Thinking of upgrading mine from 2x6kg to 11kg.
Tia.
Yes, everything has to be accounted for in the GVW.

If you want to upgrade to 11Kg cylinders look into Alugas, which being aluminium are about the same weight as 6Kg steel cylinders.

Don't forget that as well as the different weight of 6kg to 11kg bottles you'll be putting more gas in as well so that will reduce the payload.

Everything you add on top of the basic MH / Van is payload. Water, Diesel, Awning, Wife, Driver, Dog, Cat, Food, Bedding, Bikes, Bike Rack, Full Gas Bottles as well as all the food in the fridge. Only way to make sure you are safe is to get it weighed with everything in. You need front axle weight, rear axle weight and total weight.

I assume that the OP is changing 2 x 6kg for 2 x 11kg, otherwise why go to all the expense to have LESS gas? :boxing:

@Jake Royd please clarify! :D

Are you asking about MIRO (mass in running order)?
Manufacturers want to present as low a weight as possible for MIRO and all seem to use a different definition. I think they all include one gas bottle, but it's usually an Aluminium one to keep it as light as possible.
MIRO includes a lonely 75kg driver (no passenger) some fuel and a few drops of water. Some include a (short?) EHU cable.

Yes they are part of the payload and if tight on payload, look at Alugas bottles.

You could get a 10kg safefill as these are half the weight & refillable

All manufacturers should be following the EU definition of MIRO which I believe is broadly:
“The weight in a roadworthy condition is determined by ordinance (EU) no. 1230/2012 incl. basic equipment (driver 75 kg, 90% fuel, 20 l fresh water, 1 aluminium gas bottle and electrical connecting cables) in the standard configuration.”

Thanks for your replies.
Yes , I mean 2x6kg existing planning 2x11kg.
Best for me to get weighbridge masses then work out if I can allow this upgrade.

Silly question, but have you checked 2 x 11kg's will fit in your locker? This often the reason why you only have 2 x 6kg's. As has already been mentioned 1 x 14kg refillable Alugas would suffice or maybe 1 x 6kg + 1 x 11kg refillable's.

You May be correct but I have always based a litre of liquid approx 1kg to be on safe side(y)(y)(y)

Surprisingly a 6Kg bottle of gas holds 6kg of gas, which is around 12 litres:)

If you are 'filling' a 6kg bottle with 6 litres then it is only half full:)

Yes as I said I was not certain but I have twin 11kg refillable bottles and get around 22ltrs per cylinder never have weighed them but always have allowed my theory when loading van to be on safe side.
A 6kg cylinder full weighs approx 15-17 kg according to calor.(y)(y)(y)

I use GasLight (BP fibreglass bottles) on a 28mm clip on valve (not an regulator obv)

10 kg BP Gas (filled weight 15.4kg)
5 kg BP Gas (filled weight 8.7kg)

Problem is of course, availability. Flogas and Homebase in UK, but apart from isolated sightings in Spain, I doubt you will find it in Yerp.
