Hymer B694
Hi all

I have lived full time in a Hymer B694 motorhome on a Ducato chassis for the last 8 years and covered over 100000 miles in it. My problem is that the standard coil springs on the front have never been strong enough to support the van at the right height and I have also broken two sets of them. My current position is that I am driving on a broken one again which is unacceptable. I know that all of the standard springs offered are 19mm diameter and that they are inadequate. I also know because I have seen and measured them that 21 mm coils are available for this chassis. Can you please help me source these springs as anything thinner will fail? Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely
Mike Saul

I've heard of the saggy Hymer (and others) front end, but never heard of multiple springs breaking before ?
I spotted a leaking shock absorber on mine and took the opportunity to replace the front suspension with the uprated springs and it did make a big difference to ride and level.
Sounds like you'll need the most beefy ones you can find.

Kilen springs are a good alternative & come in different spring rates. Broken coil springs are often a sign of swivel bearing problems.

Coastalmotorhomes also offer good advice on Ducato vans of all ages..... Supplied me everything bar the springs that were okay on my 1999 Ducato front end.

Is the sagging front end due to old weak springs or because they were never strong enough in the first place? My 20year old Pilote sits low at the front, I am worried that stronger springs may make the already harsh ride worse.

I am sure that SAP in Doncaster will be able to advise. They put heavier springs on our Fiat chassis last month :)

How does that work, and what should I be looking out for? Recently had a broken front spring replaced.
Strut top bearings that are worn or sticking put a strain on the springs that they are not designed for ( If the bearing doesn't allow the spring/ strut assembly to turn freely).

Don't do as my mate did ....fitted airbags and forgot to adjust the headlamps.
New front springs will make the headlamp aim higher.
