Be aware that you are moving the "fuse" from the mirror to the arm mountings , eg when you have a strike instead of the plastic mirror head absorbing the impact the steel guard transfers it to the mirror supports . Small impacts are deflected , but larger ones can be much more expensive.

Agree with the above, two vehicles travelling at 50 MPH will result in a 100 MPH contact! It's a no brainer IMO
