Just on the news don't expect any more than 97 euros to the pound at ports and airports. This will drastically increase the cost of driving a motorhome. Not to mention those who are committed to receiving a pension in pounds while living in the euro zone... Not just affecting conversion to euro's, the US dollar also giving travelers far less to spend on pleasure....

The Revolut rate sounds even worse, that is normally the market leader in good rates...
How is that worse ? At the moment you get €1.09.20 to the £

Just an observation, not seen this revolt rate so low for some time. When exchanging at ports and airports we expect to be fleeced so this low figure doesn't come as such a shock...

We are off to France in a couple of weeks and now feeling smug as we watched the £/Euro and bought a couple of months back at €1.17 to the £

Don't think you've read that quite right.
What it says is 1.020 is the best possible rate we can expect at this time....no good looking for a better rate.....

As did I, but most of it has gone now ? watching intently for any slight rise and then topping up

So €1.09 should be bought then ?
That will be your decision :)but unlike the airport offer, where a better deal could possibly be found. I doubt you will better this by much.
Anyway I had a discussion with my lovely lady last night, she said she has some euros left from last year so the chances are we wont need many more for this year..:)

We shall be taking our Halifax credit cards in September and worry about exchange rates in October, (y) (y) :) in fact thinking about won't even be very worried about it then.

At this rate i'll be able to afford a house back in the UK soon. Does bode well for next weeks trip to Blighty though, roughly 20% cheaper than last year which was almost 10% cheaper than the year before that.....

There are always winners Ridgeway..... (y) :)

Thomas Cook were doing a reasonable rate last Friday. Pre- ordered some euros at 1.102. Enough euros now on the prepaid card and notes to do 4 weeks in September.

Whilst the current exchange rate is not good when we're travelling into the Euro zone, it affects the whole country. A substantial amount of goods for supermarkets, etc are sourced from within the EU and paid for in Euros. Tesco recently announced that it's putting up prices on approx 1000 items due to rate changes as the could no longer absorb the costs. Most commodities, oil, coffee, etc are priced in dollars, all have been going up.

People say a low pound makes exports cheaper, more attractive, however as most of the raw materials are imported, the costs need to rise and cancel out the exchange rate benefit.

Folks who state that as they're not travelling abroad they won't be affected by the value of the pound falling, need to think again. It affects all of us.

We should be ok, as we leave a sign out saying "No Rolex's are left in this vehicle overnight" :D

97 euros for 1 pound. I wish.

There's always a Sterling dip when all the holidaymakers buy their Euros and Dollars.

I'm going to stock up during the next Sterling bounce. Next year we might see the rate get back to 1,20 Euros or better. Who knows, 1.30 when the markets stop panicking over every silly news story.

My lovely lady has just counted her few euros left over from our last holiday:), 1500 that she has had in her holiday purse so this will be a good time to spend them, if she lets us spend them that is... :D She is a hoarder, can you believe she has £50+ on her Costa loyalty card and well over £100 on her Boots loyalty card. I've done my best to explain but she just likes it the way it is...:)
