To be fair you will see more shiny new Motorhomes than accessories, you might even see a van you didn’t know you wanted??

This is the beast of a ship lift that we should see tomorrow.

Another day doing nothing and go tomorrow?

Well we did have a bike ride,

It would have to be used? And they are like rocking horse poo so I may just admire from afar.

If you have time the incline plane at Ronquires is worth a visit, only 25K up the road.

That looks a big bugger, been on the inclined plane at Saverne in France but that one is much smaller and goes sideways.

Martin

Ps might depend how long two cassettes last.

Very little in the way of accessories at Caravan Salon, one big dealer stand and a few manufacturers stands.
It's a place you go to buy a new van not to pimp it.

I would have to pimp to buy a new MH.

So yesterday we managed to get the last couple of places on the historic canal boat trip?

Past a nice van parked up on the aire,

Into the lock,

A6B07817-B998-4529-94CE-7A829296288B.jpeg

And then on towards the Hydraulic boat lift that works by balancing the two caissons on rams full of water pressurised to 66bar, the top caisson is then filled with about 30cm more water than the bottom one so they swap places and the gates are opened.

Behind that gate is the canal?

As you travel slowly along the old 300 tonne canal (boat maximum weight) you catch glimpses of the new counterbalance 1350 tonne lift which has replaced 4 of the old Hydraulic lifts plus one lock, each caisson of the new lift weighs 8000 tonne with or without a boat in it.

The old boat lift Martin to which you refer at Thieu plus three others in the general locality, were designed by Edwin Clark from the British Company Clark, Stansfield & Clark to enable freight to be transported between the Meuse and Scheldt Rivers.

Tickets booked...abit later than planned as the campsite is full on Monday. Tunnel on Friday and arriving at the show on Tuesday for two nights. Will you still be there, Martin?

This means we will have a few more days poodling around beforehand. Looking for ideas...the boat lift looks great, so I'll just need to check whether they do trips on Mondays. Ghent is another on our list . Has anyone stayed on the car park at the Yaachthaven?

Hi Rose and Peter

? we are at the Showground Sunday night for 5 nights so Yes. The boat tours don’t run on a Monday and they get very busy so might be worth looking online and booking, or at a minimum go to the office the day you arrive and try to book for the next day.

Hope to see you in the car park.

And a good job they do too, very economical on water use to the point that when they built the new canal for the 1350 tonne boats they built a lock to join the old canal to the new one but they have to employ pumps to refill the basic after they have opened it.

We had our own personal guided tour of the Abbye church, the choir stalls were carved by one man, 74 stalls took 16 years if I understood correctly,

And then I was forced to have a abbye beer in the gardens.
