Does anyone know of a clever way to fix a retainer that doesn't retain anymore? Many thanks

Thanks, I'm just thinking of missing out on a bottle of wine :) eBay postal costs to Ireland are normally ridiculous. I'll have a look for them locally.

Drill a small hole through both parts when door is clipped in. Secure with a pop rivet.
Length of line round inside door handle then round wing mirror (also handy for drying tea towels).
Bungee cord down to under body of van front jacking point.

More than toes wet now!
A small drop of Araldite (other suitable glues are available) on the "male" part of the catch and let it dry. Basically, you're just making it bigger.
Did it a couple of years ago on our gas locker catch and still working.

Don't think I'd like some of them screwed on the bodywork and door. Bungee for me since the sliding thing on the top edge of the door is useless.

Gave up on ours years ago after the door kept slamming shut in the wind.
Our answer was a tidy bit of cord (halyard) tied to the silly pegs in the door liner and we run it out and tie thru the passenger door handle.
Very cheap, very effective and never catches you out- ouch!

Obtain short length of coat hanger wire or similar. (about 125mm or 5")
Bend each end to just a little sharper than 90 degs (about 1" or 25mm)

Drill hole of same diameter as wire, vertically on both parts of fitment and use wire between both parts.
If inclined wrap a small piece of velcro around wire and store in a suitable place nearby.
Hope the above makes sense.

There is a lot to be said in favour of Blue Tac but take care when fitting stronger catches. The supporting panels may not be strong enough to take a locked catch.

Small bungee hooked onto the lip of the lower fridge vent on the pax side and the lip of the gas locker on the offside. Gives a bit of twangy flex in a gust of wind too.

... can't beat a bit of twangy flex, like.

Heat the receiver and squeeze a bit on the jaws (not yours of course) šŸ˜
Reminded me of the man presenting in casualty with burns on his feet. When asked how it happened, casualty said cooking baked beans for tea. Label said ā€˜open tin and stand in near boiling waterā€™.
Iā€™ve got my coatā€¦.
