What's weight got to do with it?Touring in a vehicle weighing as much as a motor home and not carrying a spare is for the brain dead I'm afraid.

Sorry .. don't follow you. I have a tyre. If I get a puncture I'll call the breakdown company and they will sort it for me.I used the spare from my previous van which is identical to this ones, and is now 4 years old so still OK. I would not drive out the door without a spare tyre. If you break down without a spare in somewhere like Norway or another expensive European country they will have your pants down
Dont follow you either, I thought you said to another replier you don't have a spare tyre ? I was just quoting what I do, I think travelling Europe without a spare tyre is like sitting on top of the pointy end of a broom handle..........Sorry .. don't follow you. I have a tyre. Surely that's my choice and not a real problem.

nope would not go there at all, first off you have to be recovered somewhere, I would say unlikely you are going to get a roadside tyre fit, so that could take hours or more, and would require an appropriate loader. Then you are at the mercy of a local garage, tyre supplier and/or fitter. You are a foreigner who needs help, that automatically means a tourist tax unless you are lucky. What happens if your original wheel hub was damaged by a puncture or blow out ??? Now the broom handle is right up your and things are going to get interestingDon't have a spare wheel... just a tyre

Just concerned that others may think this is a viable plan, I don't think it is, and for the cost and weight of a spare wheel hub I think its a really bad idea. Good luckTo be honest I'm quite happy to rely on the breakdown company. .
Roadside tyre fitters are pretty common in the uk and western Europe.
It seems to cause you more concern than me.

I think the optimisim of @sdc77 in roadside repair services is somewhat misplaced.....I mean at what point in your unfortunate situation is the mobile tyre fitter turning up and fitting a tyre Which is why I advised others not to follow his example.I had a twin rear wheel blow out recently in Portugal, on a bend on a very busy road on a Saturday night, if I had not had a spare to put on and then travel on to a night halt 13 miles away at 10 mph with a flashing light police escort front and back it is unlikely I would have gone anywhere for several hours, as it was, the recovery services turned up in a woefully inadequate vehicle which I would not allow them to recover me with after three hours, I had taken the precaution of asking them to put a heavy duty trolley jack on, and the guy changed the wheel, the police allowed me to continue (hence the escort) without a spare wheel it would have been extremely problematic, would have meant staying at the side of the road for several more hours until a suitable recovery vehicle was found, and it would then have unlikely we would have been able to stay in the vehicle as it would have more than likely been recovered to business premises. It took two days until Monday 6 pm to get two tyres, finally allowing us to get on our way! Carry a spare, it's worth it!!

I am willing to bet you can prepare a whole barbie whilst Pedro sorts out his inadequate recovery operation. Followed by afters of some humble pie when the roadside tyre fitting theory goes tits up!I'll have a brew and wait.
