5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
I used the spare from my previous van which is identical to this ones, and is now 4 years old so still OK. I would not drive out the door without a spare tyre. If you break down without a spare in somewhere like Norway or another expensive European country they will have your pants down big time.....best bite the bullet and buy one. As for gasit, I fitted one myself, I recommend checking every gas seal in the system including the tank valves. In my case both valves were leaking gas from the cylinder where they were screwed in and gasit replaced the cylinder. Had I not checked those connections I would have a gas leak!!! I replaced one cylinder with an 11K gasit system and keep a 6KG lightweight calor in reserve.

Sorry I wasn't trying to be offensive to you. I've experienced the lack of a spare and using a canister. My canister was out of date and the tyre pump burnt out. After contacting my recovery agent they wouldn't attend because I didn't have a spare wheel. My friend suffered twice. He was stranded in the Highlands for 6 days waiting for a compatible tyre then he was fined 150 euros in Spain for not carrying a spare wheel.
When I was quoting the weight issue I was referring to the manufacturers excuse for not suppling a spare wheel. It's more like them saving money.
Hope I haven't offended you but that wasn't my intention.

Sorry .. don't follow you. I have a tyre. If I get a puncture I'll call the breakdown company and they will sort it for me.
Surely that's my choice and not a real problem.

Dont follow you either, I thought you said to another replier you don't have a spare tyre ? I was just quoting what I do, I think travelling Europe without a spare tyre is like sitting on top of the pointy end of a broom handle..........

Don't have a spare wheel... just a tyre
nope would not go there at all, first off you have to be recovered somewhere, I would say unlikely you are going to get a roadside tyre fit, so that could take hours or more, and would require an appropriate loader. Then you are at the mercy of a local garage, tyre supplier and/or fitter. You are a foreigner who needs help, that automatically means a tourist tax unless you are lucky. What happens if your original wheel hub was damaged by a puncture or blow out ??? Now the broom handle is right up your :moon2:and things are going to get interesting :Eeek:

To be honest I'm quite happy to rely on the breakdown company. .
Roadside tyre fitters are pretty common in the uk and western Europe.
It seems to cause you more concern than me.

Just concerned that others may think this is a viable plan, I don't think it is, and for the cost and weight of a spare wheel hub I think its a really bad idea. Good luck (y)

We'll just have to agree to disagree then. Works for us. I'm quite happy that we'll be fine in Western Europe.

Since 1996, had Elddis/Swift/Rapido/Rimor/Chausson MHs. Autocruise/Globecar PVCs/Compactline i-138
We had a Chausson Flash 04 which came without a spare wheel (new) so we soon bought one and I fixed it in the garage, both our subsequent PVCs have had spares as standard. As we extensively wild camp we would not be without a spare wheel as it could be 'interesting' for a recovery vehicle to try to get to us in some places!

As for a refillable gas system, we have Gaslow (only because when we got it in 2009 Gasit didn't exist!) - our Chausson could only take one cylinder so for that vehicle it was a necessity although we already had been using it in our previous Rimor so I just moved it over.

Wouldn't be without spare wheel, refillable gas system or a solar panel for that matter.

I had a twin rear wheel blow out recently in Portugal, on a bend on a very busy road on a Saturday night, if I had not had a spare to put on and then travel on to a night halt 13 miles away at 10 mph with a flashing light police escort front and back it is unlikely I would have gone anywhere for several hours, as it was, the recovery services turned up in a woefully inadequate vehicle which I would not allow them to recover me with after three hours, I had taken the precaution of asking them to put a heavy duty trolley jack on, and the guy changed the wheel, the police allowed me to continue (hence the escort) without a spare wheel it would have been extremely problematic, would have meant staying at the side of the road for several more hours until a suitable recovery vehicle was found, and it would then have unlikely we would have been able to stay in the vehicle as it would have more than likely been recovered to business premises. It took two days until Monday 6 pm to get two tyres, finally allowing us to get on our way! Carry a spare, it's worth it!!

I think the optimisim of @sdc77 in roadside repair services is somewhat misplaced.....I mean at what point in your unfortunate situation is the mobile tyre fitter turning up and fitting a tyre  Which is why I advised others not to follow his example.

Carry a spare a hydraulic jack and breaker bar and change my own in less than 15 minutes.
Gasit, gunk and all the other gimmicks are no substitute for a proper spare wheel.
My generation were taught to change a flat at an early age, many today are too lazy or too risk averse.
Can also do my motorbike tyres on roadside as well.:)
Buggered if I'm sitting around for hours waiting then paying someone to do what I can do myself.

one of the reasons i carry two spares complete for my truck is should you catch a stone between the rear tyres it can burst both .
belt and braces i say.
luckily i can use the drop down leg on my trailer as a bead breaker and tubeless tyres are so easy to change . have air to work the brakes on my trailer so have a take off and can pump tyres etc .easily.

Being from a generation who were also taught to change a spare wheel I made the decision (after the manufacturer) not to.
I know I'm not the only one too. I carry a spare tyre only.
Our motorhome is for leisure.. I don't intend carrying one or two spare wheels and a hydraulic jack. I have the space I suppose and the payload but as far as I'm concerned in western Europe (certainly the warmer parts that we frequent) I don't need to. I'm well covered by breakdown insurance.
I never asked for anyone to copy me .. in fact I copied someone else as it made sense to me. If I was going to morocco Im sure I'd take a spare. But I'm not and I'm more than happy that I could have a puncture repaired in a reasonable time in the areas we go to. In any case the risk is mine.
Anyone wants to do their own wheel changes.. enjoy..(and mind your bottom on that brush handle) I'll have a brew and wait.

I am willing to bet you can prepare a whole barbie whilst Pedro sorts out his inadequate recovery operation. Followed by afters of some humble pie when the roadside tyre fitting theory goes tits up!
