A few years now
Saw the new Citroen Ami 2 seat budget electric "car" advertised - unlikely to have a good safety rating if ever tested & may never be available in UK but looks cute! https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/new-citroen-ami-car-14-year-olds Might make an attractive tow vehicle for some motorhomers?

Don’t think you can tow electric vehicles , have to be trailered .
 
What a 'come-down' from the days when Citroen meant class design with the "DS" series. People used to collect Citroen calendars just for the pictures. Somehow this latest baby lacks something..... taste comes to mind. Reminds me of a Lego block.
 
Its a quadricycle even though it looks like a car, hence why youngsters etc can drive it, it will certainly give those who use the higher speed mobility scooters a way to get around more comfortably/quicker than they do currently and obviously be safer too, so whether it will come here or not I don't know but a fair few people could benefit from it if it does ... I wonder what the cost will be.

For those wanting their own car but not wanting to pay the Ami’s list price, Citroen will offer a monthly lease deal. Following a first payment of €3,544 (£3,150) drivers will have to stump up €19.99 (£17.77) a month. High rollers can pay €6,900 (£6,133) to buy an Ami outright should they wish.

 
Surely they are missing a trick if EV cannot be towed, couldn't the power from the wheels be harvested and returned to the EV itself or even used to top up your Leisure Battery bank?

I think fitting a dynamo to a trailer wheel is within most of our technical expertise, if not a quick visit to the local bike shop should sort out any snags

Not sure of the weight of the Citron Ami (Translation: Friendly Lemon !)
But a bike trailer may be all that is needed, a couple of 26" touring wheels (32 spoke) should be OK
 
I think small electric "cars" will replace the Smart Car type of Toad for motorhomers, in the near future

What may be critical for us is the length
The Peugeot Twizzy is 2.2m
The Citroen Ami is 2.4m

Which means the Peugeot could be towed behind a motorhome on a longitudinal trailer, and be no wider than the standard motorhome, whereas the Citroen would be visible in both wing mirrors, but not actually wider than the wing mirrors (just)

They are both around the 450KG weight range
The Twizzy has a range of 28 miles, the Citroen has a range of 45 miles
Neither of which is impressive. I think a 100+ mile range is needed to really sell these vehicles

I'd certainly consider one or the other as a TOAD

Yes, but that was the estate version. The saloon looked like Ford Anglia at the back, with an angled rear screen. So I’m not sure about Rosalan’s comment above about it being a come down from earlier Citroen designs like the DS - Around the same time they were also designing the Dyane and Axel. Not to mention the “bean can“ controls on the original AX! Citroen were always good back then for not following the crowd!;)

Funny thing is that with a lot of French Classics, their weakest link was mostly the electrics, they even caught fire, as I can witness driving my uncles nearly new Renault 30TX back to the dealership.
En-route the lady voice in the dash advised me to " pull over immediately and evacuate vehicle" I thought what the hell is she on about?, the car was driving fine, by now the garage was only a mile away anyhow, so I continued.
On reaching the garage, parked up, locked the car, walked into the service reception and waited, on turning around there was green/black smoke billowing out the car from the dashboard, which was now on fire!:eek:

So now they have moved onto ev's with higher voltage, more batteries, what's not to like. :unsure: :eek:

My Mum had one of them in the early 70's
I had one too - 603 cc horizontally opposed twin. An amazing car. It would cruise at 70 mph on the motorway for mile after mile - if it was flat - if not change into 3rd. All the same mechanicals as the Deux Chevaux

I once went over the Hard Knot and Wrynose passes (both ways) with four people, an Afghan Hound and a 22 gallon keg of bitter on board. (well ok the beer wasn't on board coming back!) First gear was very low, 2nd and 3rd great for in town but 4th was a very high ratio. Column change too and I think the handbrke was dash mounted?

Its not very wide it only just fits in between the chassis rails on my trailers when have to move it about

The Ami is not a quadricycle:
Cars in this class must conform to two limits: they must weigh less than 350kg and have a top speed limited to 28mph.

Its a belt driven death trap

CLASSIFICATION
The Citroën Ami 100% electric is classified as a quadricycle and will be available in the UK as a left hand drive.
SPEED LIMIT AND RANGE
The Ami is limited to 27.9 MPH with a range of 46.6 miles (WMTC test). Please ensure that this is suitable for your needs and operating purposes. Due to the speed limitation, the Ami is not legally permitted on UK motorways, and further consideration should be given where the speed limit of the road exceeds the speed limitation of the Ami. Please also consider the range limitations and distance from your nearest Ami Authorised Repairer when considering servicing requirements.
CHARGING
For the UK, the AMI will be supplied with a Type 2 wall box adapter; this is because it is manufactured with a European two pin plug. This allows for the Citroën Ami to be charged via a Type 2 wall box which itself is not supplied, and you should ensure that you have access to the approved charging solution. Verify with your wall box provider for suitability. Charging via a wall box does not decrease the charging time, as the Ami itself limits the charging speed as opposed to the charging solution.
DRIVING LICENCE
A full UK driving licence may be used to drive the AMI. Whilst an AM licence may also be used to legally drive an AMI, not all insurers will provide cover for AM licence holders. Please check with your insurance provider. Please check the back of your driving licence to see what category permissions you hold. Provisional licence holders are not permitted to drive an AMI.
INSURANCE
It is a legal requirement that a quadricycle has to have insurance cover. Our insurance provider, Citroen Insurance, has an insurance option that is available to eligible customers over the age of 17 years old holding a full UK driving licence. It will not cover those drivers, or additional drivers on an AM licence.
