Planning on flushing my water system and Truma boiler out with Citric Acid this weekend. Have purchased a large container of the stuff from Amazon.
What advice, techniques, experiences do people have for the procedure.

How strong?
How long?

Are my first questions.

Thanks
Andy.

I did this very thing about a month ago to my van but damned if I can remember the concentration I used sorry.
I filled up the fresh water tank, 135 litres, drove to work 26 miles, transferred the water into the grey tank through the taps later in the day and then drove home, left it overnight then gave the drains outside the house a clean also.
We never drink from the onboard tank but having just bought the van i wanted to know that it was cleaner than when I had bought it, did I say that I would never recommend Campbells of Preston to anyone :xeek:
Norman.

Stroppy bird jogged my memory there, I had bought I kg of the stuff, food grade, from Wilko so that was the quantity I used, rightly or wrongly as it was all I had.
Next time around I will use 2 kgs :xThumb:

So 1500kg for £734 isn't too bad then.
?.
I buy 1500kg a month at work.
Food grade citric.

I might seek permission to buy extra strictly for funsters......

How easy does it dissolve?

Am I better to mix it with warm water and add via a bucket direct into water tank, or dump the granules direct into water tank, then fill with hose before pumping around.

I'd say mix in a bucket first with Luke warm water. Then pump through the system.

I tend to dissolve it first, pour into the tank and then fill with hose, give it a mix round and then draw through all taps (hot and cold). Leave for an hour or two and then drain it down (I draw a decent amount through into the grey tank to let it do it's business there as well).

Then give the whole system a rinse through with fresh water.

I've descaled our Webasto boiler with citric acid in the past but Webasto (Truma may be different) have now changed their advice and recommend vinegar. Apparently because citric acid can damage their boilers.

So today five litres of white wine vinegar arrived from Amazon to be used tomorrow. I'm going to mix it with ten litres of water and leave for about twelve hours with heating on.

Never had Truma but used it for fresh water tank when we bought used MH.
Left for 24 hours in tank pulled through all pipework and then into waste tank, added dishwasher tab to grey tank, drove around then dumped.
Flushed all pipes with fresh to finish.
