ALOR GAS WARNING - DISCONTINUING SUPPLY
Lots of our campers have motorhomes, vans and caravans that use these bottles, this could be a real pain for you....
Calor Gas is speculated to be announcing today that they will discontinue the supply of all smaller bottles with immediate effect. This will apply to 3.9kg propane, 4.5kg butane and the 6kg Lite bottle.
We expect a press release today, the 19th of January 2023, where full details will be confirmed. We understand this is due to issues in their supply chain and an oversupply of bottles in circulation.
Users will be able to trade a 3.9kg bottle up to a regular 6kg, and a 4.5kg bottle up to a 7kg. The Calor Lite bottle can be exchanged for a 6kg.
This will undoubtedly put pressure on the availability of the 6kg propane bottle as people upgrade. Owners of campervans or leisure vehicles with small gas bottle storage will need to look at Campingaz 904 or 907 as a possible alternative. No doubt these will be in short supply again too, which would result in a price increase.
My advice is to plan early, consider changing your regulator and purchase your bottles ahead of summer!
In other news, one of Calor Gas’ biggest customers, B&Q, has cancelled its supply contract with Calor. This will no doubt have an impact on their sales in the UK and an impact on how barbecues are fuelled.
We await the official press release today.

and earlier this morning.......

Looking up gaslow, they do a 6kg bottle. 460mm high, I don't know how that compares with the discontinued calor one.

Basildog is going to try to get one in , it has to go in at an angle because the locker door is only 25cm wide by 35cm tall 6kg calor would not stand up because of the angle .he has said he can hopefully get one in which will save me loads of money. He has been very helpful

We have just bought 2 gaslow 6kg refillables and got autogas2000 in Thirsk to fit them for us, Fit better into our gas locker than the standard 6kg bottles did. Service from Autogas 2000 was brilliant and done in an hour.

My 6kg exchange Calor and 6kg refillable Gaslow cylinders fit no problem. In fact the Gaslow isn't as tall as the Calor.

Do you get them new ?
If so where from please?
Cost?

The other problem here is where do you get your refillable bottles filled there seems to be less and less outlets doing it in the UK. I am lucky in that there is one in reasonable distance to me. The other problem we we have come across is that some outlets only allow tanks to be filled as against bottles despite the fact ours is a Safefil system and has lived up to its name so far in the 12 years we have used it.

They were second hand from fb marketplace from someone who had gone for larger bottles. Autogas 2000 often has 2nd hand bottles for sale as they often do upgrades from bottles to tanks
