Took the van in for the brake clip recall and saw this in the showroom. Brand new with only 27 miles on the clock. The owner has rejected an offer of £69k

as he feels it’s worth £75k!

Yeah, already in 2015 when I looked at off-roaders, the Defender was in its last year of production and they had jacked-up the price so much it was ridiculous. Ended up with a Ford Ranger.

Where is that Lanny, I've seen it before but can't remember where.

They were good in their day the 50's & 60's but why would anyone want one now.

Because they are characters not just bland euro boxes. They can easily be fixed on your driveway with spanner’s and hammers and are going up in value, even when used everyday, even getting the odd ding doesn’t effect the value.
I’ve got a house on wheels for big journeys

I had one and was in Highland 4 wheel drive club. Went out once a month on different estate, had some interesting times.
They are very easy to repair, for instance, broken rear half shaft, jacked up and replaced inside 20 minutes and that's on a hill side 30 miles from anywhere. Great vehicles for what they are, we loved ours, and it had lots of Tesco kisses which just give them character.
The new ones are rubbish in comparison and can't see them taking a bashing out in the wild like the Defender.

I passed my test in one when I was 17 and I've never not owned one since I was 18. No room. only comfortable when the windows open, noisy, rattly, basic beasts. So they were good in the 50's you say, looks like I missed the good ones then. '\

They were good in their day, but that day was a very long time ago.
You used to see Defenders all over the world, but they've now been largely supplanted by Toyotas.

As they say in Australia, "if you're going into the Outback take a Land Rover. If you want to come back again take a Toyota"!

I did my apprenticeship on defenders. Love them but can't afford even the cheapest now.

I love old 4x4s they are proper work beasts!! Built for purpose and nothing else.

This is my baby (just like showing it off)

I would expect the prices of proper Defenders to hold well now that they've slapped Defender badges on what looks like a rehashed Discovery type thing.

Yes they’re only going up I reckon.

I to had my first Land Rover (1948 series one ) when I was 18 years old I am now coming 74 and have never been without a Land Rover and not Intending to be

Learnt to drive on a 86 passed my test in it. Worth there weight in gold now

I had a 1996 Defender for a couple of years. Great fun but useless to travel any long distance in. Think it would have been worth a lot more now than I sold it for.

I've tried to keep my Landy as standard as the day it left the factory Lenny ::bigsmile:

I've only changed the V8 Manual setup for a 300tdi Auto - and that's it honest!

I had always wanted a Defender, finally got around to buying this one back in 2008. Used it quite a bit when I first got it, a bit of gentle off roading and green laneing. Unfortunately due to work commitments I haven't really had the time to enjoy it that much over the last few years. Still keep it MOT'd, insured and taxed. in fact these photos where taken immediately after passing its MOT in Dec 2019. it had done 28miles since the last test in Dec 2018. and only 49 miles the year before. Sits in the garage most of the time, occasionally take it for a run around the village. Had lots of offers to sell but kind bring myself to sell it.

I brought a Discovery 200tdi new in 1990, parked it up in 2010, needed brake servo and heater motor so couldn’t be arsed to do it at the time,
Decided this year as I’m retired to ether scrap it or put it back on the road, put a new battery on her and first turn on the key and she was away :giggle:
So that’s my project for the next six months to bring her back to her former glory, the best thing about her there isn’t a scrap of electronics on her anywhere, you could bump start her with no battery and drive her until she ran out of fuel,
