Black and Gray Plastics

Light sanding with a fine wet and dry and then linseed oil.

The other day I used boiled linseed oil. Apparently the oil in the plastic dry out

Most plastics are textured so cant be sanded. Tried various oils including peanut. None lasted

I've just tried a sample of plastic / rubber protector gel on mine. It's now snowing so that will be its first test.

Nothing works more than a few weeks/months, otherwise we'd all be driving round in vans with nice black plastic, all the time.

Plastic sealer undercoat / primer and a top coat.

hope it does last it’s what I sprayed the rear bumper and side skirts with.

I used Forever Black Bumper & Trim Cleaner on the Ducato PVC we had where the black plastic had gone grey after reading online user reviews and was more than pleased with the results.
A year after appling it it looked like the day I did it.
It's a small bottle but it goes a long way.

I use this, diluted with water 1:10 for interior trim/external trim and 1:5 for tyres. It's non sticky and gives a not too glossy finish.

This definately works not cheap though. G Techniq C4. You can get it on Amazon. Pic shows G5 but get the C4.

Meguires tyre gel - amazing stuff and lasts a long time, as others have said it will not last forever. This does leave a sheen, so if this isn’t your thing look elsewhere

Drop of WD40 on a clean cloth, making sure the surface is clean first. Takes little time and lasts around 6 months.

I've had my new stuff out in the rain and snow for 48 hrs up to now.. it's still looking good.

What do you use that's good and lasts?
Okay well i'm a bit late on this thread , but i thought this may be something of interest . I'm currently testing a plastic refinishing paint . It's a rattle can , but a bit expensive at 35 quid for 400ml . Though meant for exterior plastic , ie bumpers , mirrors , etc , i've used it extensively in the engine bay , on timing covers , head cover , airbox , basically anything plastic . I've even used it on plastic air induction pipes . Easy to apply , the surface needs no special preparation other than degreasing , and one coat is general all that's required . It's transformed my engine bay .

It works by repigmenting the plastic . I first began testing last year , on a mirror that was fitted to my small van . It was originally destined for the rear bumper on the same vehicle , which has been sun bleached , and almost white in places . Supplied by a car restoration company i use , i'd not previously found any product that lasted anymore than 2 months .
I would like to give a glowing result , but the truth is , it's still early days . Yes the product works , is easy to apply , and though early tests result are good , are not conclusive . The colour has retained a deep finish , but it's only just completed 13 months . The only drawback i've found to date , is it's only available in black , and there are no plans to extend the range .
I shortly will also begin testing another pigmenting paint , however this is different in that it's meant for interior plastic . The product is more involved to apply , but works on the same principle . It's also available in several colours .

boys on the vivaro forums swear by cherry blossom shoe polish the liquid one with an aplicator on the bottle

Wurth do a plastics pigment in tubes with an applicator sponge. Different colours too. Well they did when I worked for them.

After all my years of trying oil, peanut butter, heat, sanding etc, this is by far the best. It’s a clear gel, so no problems getting on paint etc and brings up all plastics to a beautiful finish.

Here’s my 2006 Ducato that went from grey dull to like new in minutes. Works great on window surrounds too.

Drop of WD40 on a soft cloth. As long as the colour hasn't bleached out brings up the black a treat and lasts well enough for zero cost!
