Morning all,

I want to fit BFG tyres to my MoHo. Size will be the same, 225/75R16, but just wanted advice if they will fit! There is plenty of clearance on the front (Ducato base), but on the rears, the existing tyres look close to the arches. Please see attached.

So, are All Terrain tyres with the extra nobbly bits bigger or the same as the Continentals?

Thanks
BigDean.

They will sing like a full choir on the motorway, we will hear you coming from miles away😂😂😂. You should get plenty of “can you pull me out of the mud mate, requests”?😂

I didn't think BFG made 8 ply "C" rated tyres for vans.

Sorry, no idea what that means. I checked the load rating, at 115 would be sufficient. Thanks, will try and look up the "ply"

How much off road use will the tyres get. I can’t help thinking that there could well be a downside for on road use.

I have the 17" version on my VW camper and to be honest, they are nicer to drive with than the stock tyres it came with. Marginally noisier, but feel planted on the road.

I don't generally do much above 60 in the MoHo, so not worried that on road would be affected. Planning on extensive international travel, including wild camping and don't know what roads we might come across. Not planning "off roading" per se, but gravel tracks and inhospitable hills may be encountered.

Just trying to put the best boots on that I can.

C rated and 3 Ply.
Interesting, I think the "LT" in the specification means "Light Truck" so will be marked as such. I will have to have a look at them. I have always found "My Tyres" website useful.

The size should be the same..

225 = the tread width in mm
75 = the sidewall height = 75% of tread width.
16 = 16" wheel diameter.

Unless you are very careful. BFG AT will kill you you on wet tarmac.

Thanks Jim,

Can you explain why? I have had no problems with the ones on my VW. Or is it being 3.5t instead of 2.5t?

Thanks
Dean

ever the economist, the buggers will wear out quick about 50% shorter life than camper tyres and the last 30% of wear do not give any advantage over others in fact dangerous in some conditions

Isn’t the load rating lower than your original? 112 as opposed to 116 original.

As they are guaranteed for 50,000 miles, I am not too concerned about the last 30%. I am happy to replace before then. (y)

The LR is 115 for single mounting, so that covers 1215kg per corner. My MAX load on rear axle is 2440kg, so if I was at max, which we would never be, we would potentially be 10kg over. If we had more than 2430kg on the back axle, there would be nothing in the front and we would be wheelie-ing everywhere:LOL:

The ply figure 3 on BFG is actual plies , not a ply rating 8 ply mentioned with van tyres is a rating not the actual number of plies . The load index is the important figure . BFG AT of a given size will meet the dimensions of other tyres of the same size. Wet grip will be same as tyres of the same class B The AT will be a little noisier than a camper as speed increases more so , the more tread void area the more noise general rule . HTSH

Thanks for that (y)

Wet grip specification for these tyres appears to be class B with A being the best, E the worst. Sounds fine to me.

I must have well over 200,000 miles on BFG's on Lanny's. I love the tyre. they are great on everything except wet tarmac and ice. Real world wet weather driving is just not that good, push on a bit and you feel them go. A fully loaded motorhome and a wet French N Road BFG's not for me, I'll keep mine on the Lanny, but won't put them on my van.

Unless the MH is 4 wheel drive then what’s the point of BFG All Terrain tyres on both axles?

I use them on my 4x4 because I often go off road, but they will shake you to death at speed and on tarmac with water or ice you’ll just be on your way to the accident.

The reason they last so long is they are very hard which (watch F1) means carp grip

It’s only 2 wheel drive but wouldn’t put a mix of tyres.

I have them on my VW camper which doesn’t shake at 70. Does the extra ton of motorhome make a difference?

Also the stopping characteristics seem good on the VW.
