I only use my motorhome once a year for 6 weeks in the South of France, I’m looking for inspiration to get out more, so where was your BEST ever trip and why, UK or abroad?

We have a small dog we take with us in the UK but stays with relatives if abroad only because of the heat, but does have a pet passport.

Thanks!

If your mode of transport is an RV then my suggestion is to get something smaller. RVs are ok for a long stay but in my opinion not the best option for UK touring.

After our honeymoon I think it would be our trip a couple of years ago, down through France and into Northern Spain.
Best bits of that trip, the fresh cool air and views as we crossed the Pyrenees and the times spent watching the vultures soaring.

Wow looks stunning, not ventured as far as Spain yet, my wife loves falcons and flies them, she would love that, Thanks ?

And what experience do you base that opinion on Buttons? Driven many RVs around Europe? And then My RV is shorter than most tag axle European Motorhomes. Is that too big to tour? RVs come in all shapes and sizes so your generalisation is wrong on more than one level. :D

“Norway ??

The country is jaw-droppingly beautiful. We first went last year and couldn’t wait to go back... we’re there now and loving it.”

Agree on that, used to spend a month or so every year living wild up there in snow holes in the Arctic Circle, always wanted to return but very expensive, that is one I will DEFINITELY do ? Thanks

Difficult to just pick one trip as they are all different but I really enjoyed a very last minute trip around Belgium Germany and Netherlands a couple of years ago, we booked the ferry and left it to "Funsters" to suggest right left or straight on OK straight on won and we had a nice stop at Thieu in Belgium followed by Monschau in Germany then Netherlands for the flowers at Keukenhof.

Other highlights would be Lake Lipno in the Czech republic and Berlin on a trip last November.

Yep being right all the time can get boring as you know Jim.:) As it happens yesterday I decided to drive into London rather than using the train. My daughter had an appointment at Great Ormand's Street hospital. Took just 50 mins from door to door. Parked in the Imperial Hotel car park cost just £2 an hour and was sitting in the hospital eatery two hours earlier than her appointment. Had a nice breakfast and a really nice chat, something we don't do enough off.
Try doing that in an RV...….;) :)

I agree, couldn't really pick one trip as the best, but for a couple of weeks we like northern France, poo pooed by many who havnt tried it and just zoom through it, cheaper than the south and a lot friendlier people, see DBK s excellent thread .

Another vote for Norway, we were there for 4 weeks this year, Southern half, amazing, we only have a PVC so made some of the narrow bits easier. One of the other couples had an A class someone knocked his mirror in a very out of the way place. He stopped and asked if there were any motorhome repair shops. He was directed to a little garage run by a Brit and an Aussie who’d lived there for years, they repaired it for free. What a coincidence!

Where are you at the moment? We used to do our Arctic warfare and Arctic survival training in Narvik then up to Tromso, as you say beautiful country, you have just inspired me I'm going to make some plans (y) Only problem is time, my wife is still working and I'm retired, maybe I could drive up there and she could fly out to meet me for a week or so then fly back, I would then just drive back myself ;)

Our trips abroad are all the same, we love it so much we never change destination, if we do we're always underwhelmed and can't wait to arrive at the main event... BENIDORM! ?❤️?
It has everything for everyone, all tastes and needs are catered for. 5 star food, fantastic waterpark, spectacular free live music in bars that I've never seen the likes of before, Queen and Spanish Beatles are brill.
And it's all very cheap.
Most (not all) people who don't like it have never been.

Oh and there's bar street in the middle for the teenagers ?

I guess size of Motorhome can have its pros and cons, we went for large as we like space and have family staying, also nice in bad weather as you can relax indoors and not on top of each other, cons are physical size to get into some places, I am use to driving huge vehicles so not a problem for me but still takes a little more planning and forethought. I don't want to get into the big or small is beautiful debate but would appreciate about whether the trips would be suitable for a larger 8m vehicle, THANKS (y)

An RV is just like a truck, trucks go everywhere doing deliveries, and a daily occurrence at the hospital no doubt, I don't see the issue apart from maybe parking, but then any sensible person takes that into account and doubt you would take an RV for a hospital appointment! Sometimes I think it is down the the confidence and experience of the driver (y)

We were driving along through the Canyon del Lenza with a sheer drop on our left when we looked out of the passenger window to see a vulture gliding at the same level of us just 10 feet away.
We pulled over at this spot and spent a magical afternoon watching them soar around the canyon and the rocks above us.

The other great place with magnificent views is at the top of the escarpment at De Pancorbo a Orduna where you can watch the vultures and other birds of prey flying with the paragliders in the evening sun. We overnighted in the carpark at the top of the escarpment. Loved driving the 180% hairpins up to the top of the escarpment.

Box junctions alone could be an expensive nightmare. You say you only use your RV once a year, Like most other RVs I guess it spends the rest of it's days parked up. We have a number of RVs around here that are seldom off the drive with impromptu use not being an option. There has to be a reason for such limited use considering the cost of owning one.
We are talking RVs here not a tiddler like our leaders which I must admit is a very nice functionable unit.:)(y)

Absolutely stunning, I used to do a lot of rock climbing, I love big skies, Thanks

Every trip in our van is the best, at the time. We use our van a lot, just over 12000 miles since we bought it 11 months ago.
Even before we both retired, I clocked up around 9000 miles a year in our previous vans.
you just have to make time to use it.

I don't know what your definition of an RV is, do you class 8m as an RV, as for box junctions what about lorries and buses? As for using it once a year yes that's it, we do give it a little run round the block to keep things moving, we don't eave the handbrake on we chock it, it 9yrs it has worked flawlessly, its plugged into electric on the driveway and has a dehumidifier and heater, I can see the interior temperature remotely with my weather station and be alerted to any changes, it also records the temperature, humidity and air quality on a chart. Why do we have one? I guess because we can ;)

I think RV is just an American term for Recreational Vehicle, so we tend to use it describe a US built motorhome very rarely below 8 metres though.

Been through (and parked in) a busy Tesco car park on a Saturday in a 26-footer. Does that count? Won't be repeating the experience anytime soon though ?.

Nothing wrong with a supermarket, I have done Geant Casino near Port Grimaud when we were delayed and arrived very late one night in the Sof F :D

When we needed more space 596 I built an extension, I grant you that It doesn't quite have the mobility of your RV but it is a close call.....:beerchug:

There's another negative with RVs, they always arrive late at night, it takes so long to get anywhere...

Benidorm is a bit of a Marmite resort. We have been a few times now and must admit we love it(y) yet some once is more than enough....

We enjoy the journey, what's the rush I don't understand? Can pull over anywhere, have a shower (water heated as you go along) then cook a full roast dinner, have some drinks, or lounge around at the huge rear lounge watching TV if you want, have a sleep, wake up, Fresh coffee reading the latest on the forum through wifi link while on the toilet followed by WASH HANDS then cook full breakfast with cereal, toast, fresh juices from the huge fridge, yogurt, then washed down with bacon, eggs, sausage, tomato, beans, fried bread. Get in drivers seat and head off ALL without getting out of the van. Am in a Morelo, NO a Swift 596 (y) :D

At the moment we’re travelling toward Tromso. We travelled for two months north along the northern shores of Norway to Kirkenes and to the Russian border. We’re now working our way slowly back over the next couple of months.

You’re right about having the time it’s a very long way if you go up through Norway if time is tight I’d go up through Sweden - their roads are so much better.

Sometimes I wish I had married an older woman then could use the motorhome more  Enjoy it, I hope I can do the trip you are doing while health permits, I don't ever want to be sitting with soup dribbling down my chin wishing I had done something, oops spilt a bit
