Currently on the Aire at Sancoins arrived early afternoon so didn't really expect to get a canal side pitch but it seems this greedy French bar steward has taken 3 pitches, several others taking 1 and a half each. I know its first come first served etc. but really big van, trailer and car plus not pulled up to tree in front leaving another half pitch unusable.

How else do you expect him to park?
You have to park lengthwise along the canal.
Isn't there any space for you ?
If you can't park on that side use the other side - we did.

Perhaps put car on trailer and put that the other side? Yes we are on other side but could have been on canal side!

Certainly selfish and not entirely unusual with some of the motorhomers with large vans, trailers etc trying to squeeze onto some of the aires. If you can't speak the same language as the miscreant to raise your concerns then you have to suck it up or simply move on?

I meant park up on the other side of the canal and you would be at the canal side.

Didn't realise you could. Never mind was going to stay a couple of days but there isn't much here so will move on tomorrow.

Let the tyres down on the car and trailer.

Don’t worry about the hissing sound. He will assume he is being gassed and claim for his his, Rolex, two iPads and £2k. You’re doing him a favour.

Seriously though, incredibly selfish parking. The trailer could have been disconnected and “parallel parked” with the motorhome. That’s what we do with our scooter trailer.

You’re in France.
He’s French.
It’s a free aire.
He got there first.
Tough!

Selfish behaviour though, although not exactly surprising.
Those Frenchies just don’t know how to play the game old boy.

It does seem that the French suffer from a complete lack of spacial awareness. This case however is intriguing. Rather than park right next to another van (typically a British one and normally mine) even if it's an empty field, this chap has engineered himself a space so that it is impossible for anyone to park anywhere near him. All very odd.

He probably doesn't want his generator to disturb his fellow campers this evening..

In ten years of staying on Aires I've never once seen or heard a generator being used.

But in the UK........ ....

I believe trailers are technically not allowed on aires, though I've seen plenty. Taking up three spaces is obviously an abuse of the aire. Probably nothing you can do about it though.

If caravans are not supposed to use Aires, how is that allowed?

In any cas whats the big deal about parking next to the canal, probably full of mozzies anyway!

I don't know where the 'no trailer' rules come from.

We stayed at the Hirel Aire and there was a guy with a big Motorhome (motorbike in the garage) and he was pulling a trailer with a car on it and another trailer with a boat on it.

He needed a heck of a turning circle but no one batted an eyelid and he was charged the same as the rest of us - €6 to stop overnight.

And no pegs to park up to, no Wardens and loads of kids riding bikes all day - the UK snowflake brigade would have been apoplectic ........

No, it wasn't, it was a very quiet relaxing Aire.

TBH it's one of the noisiest for traffic noise all night we have been on, constant droning in the background of motor bikes and general traffic noise.
