It applies throughout EU, your road tax vignette, it has to match logbook. I’m paying for commercial as well instead motorhome as my logbook says van with windows. And I have been checked at border several times. Take this with dvla.I was driving from Turkey to UK and crossed a narrow strip of Slovenia into Austria. I had only been in the country for about 30 minutes when I got pulled over by a traffic car and got a penalty for several hundred euros for displaying the wrong visa. He explained that my camper was a self build and the log book showed it to be a commercial vehicle. He offered a cut price if I paid it there and then.
The thread is of interest to me as when I was there I wasn’t impressed either and I am interested why people had a different experience to meThat’s ok - this thread is obviously of no interest to you so why bother to post in it?

It perhaps depends on what you enjoy, but Slovenia does have some beautiful countryside. The thread is of interest to me as when I was there I wasn’t impressed either and I am interested why people had a different experience to me
I won’t be rushing back
Yes it does, we need to spend more time there next timeIt perhaps depends on what you enjoy, but Slovenia does have some beautiful countryside.
And we are now lucky enough to live amongst that beautiful countryside. It perhaps depends on what you enjoy, but Slovenia does have some beautiful countryside.

Fortunately I now have a "proper" motorhome. I'm surprised that you've been checked several times, since in the last 20 years I have trundled through western europe, the Balkans and Turkey many times and have only fallen foul once. I'm struggling to remember where I needed to buy a windscreen permit; Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria (where I forgot to get one but nobody checked!) and this once in Slovenia. I'm wondering whether the requirement for vignettes in Romania and Hungary came in in the last few years as I used to travel that route, Romanian potholes and all, freely.Yes Bulgaria, Romania always asks for log book at the border, in and out. Sometimes Hungary to.
I have no idea how I got away with that then, although I was travelling fairly minor village roads many of which are not subject to payment, I am just learning. I enjoyed spotting storks nesting on top of telegraph poles.Vignettes for Ro was in place atleast 15years ago. I know as I used to travel there 3-4 times a year, and still do. Roads have improved massively, and still building new ones. For sure main routes puts to shame some parts of UK.

To start with, it was on the spot checks on entry and exit of localities and towns. That was replaced within a year by number plate recognition, placed on exit/entry of towns/ localities, junction, and major roads. That info is fed at border control as well.I have no idea how I got away with that then, although I was travelling fairly minor village roads many of which are not subject to payment, I am just learning. I was driving on Turkish plates - probably played its part.To start with, it was on the spot checks on entry and exit of localities and towns. Some foreign plates do get away with it, specially if no English speaking in the lazy crew shift.
We really love Slovenia, we have stayed on the campsite a couple times or so , very small but incredibly friendly, Camp Dolina near Prebold, central -ish in the hop growing areaGreat find. I’ve only visited one of the 34 listed so far, Bled at number 1, but think I shall look out for some of these on our travels in the future. Thanks maz

Welcome to Slovenia!
I would normally invite you to visit us but we have just had the driveway extended and need to keep heavy vehicles off it until it has cured properly.

Later on we hope to be able to offer a stopover to Funsters touring Slovenia and Croatia. There will be room to park on the grass by the 'Jesus garden'.
