So the selfish are arriving....
A30 is already filling with caravans & cars with top boxes & bikes
Probably be more tomorrow...lots more.
**Our one major hospital has only 15 beds in the critical care unit!!! **
We were one of the counties with the lowest cases of covid -19
Hope to god none of my friends & family will need a bed at Treliske because holiday makers will fill them quicker than we can!
You can holiday here anytime once the uk is back to normal! just adhere to the advice & stay in your own towns!
The kids were taken out of school to keep them at home - not bring them on holiday!!
We are one of the poorest counties in Europe & love & need tourists but right now we need your help by staying away!

**added note**

Thankyou all for your posts & shares!!!
I know that a few people think that I, and the Cornish have our head up our arses. But we dont, we love our county as do many of you! I know that Cornwall is not alone in the uk in accepting holiday makers! It’s a crucial part of of our income & we are blessed to live here!
My post was & is simply to make aware that to keep us safe (& also other parts of the uk) people must adhere to the governments advice & stay home - don’t travel! Uk holiday destinations are not open!
Shops are closed, pubs, restaurants are closed, we are no different to the rest of the uk!
Let stop this virus ASAP ??

Police and military are ready to implement checkpoints, but IMO Government would prefer we police ourselves without resorting to such such draconian measures.

The travelling muppets will be the first to whinge when the Government is forced to impose travel restrictions.

My friends husband in Penzance is - as of last week - awaiting an appt with Oncology as his prostate cancer seems to have reared its ugly head again judging by repeated increased PSA tests. I hope to hell (anyway without the influx) 'this lot' doesn't delay his treatment.

She also has to trek to Truro Hosp for her diabetes appointments same as I do for mine, but neither of us is urgent, not like cancer, aargh.

I have been saying the same on similar threads, but some even on here think that going to campsites or touring in vans is OK, they dont consider that by travelling to another area increases the risk of spreading the virus as they dont intend to break "The Social Distance" rules of staying 2 mtrs apart, and will doing the same in their vans as they do at home in self isolation.
They feel perfectly well, they do not consider that they may already be infected, and inside the incubation period, of 2-14 days.
If symptoms do subsequently develop, how many people and places have they unknowingly infected.

You might as well whistle in the wind, as far as asking some people not to panic/binge buy in supermarkets, or not travel anywhere unless its "Essential"
Now I wait for the incoming justification, and flack, I will no doubt get from some on here by simply pointing out the same safety advice given to us all by the Gov & Health Experts, and their reasons for not adhering to it!

I'd be very surprised if the Gvt don't TELL people next week essential travel only, just like the pubs, some people struggle when left to their own discretion!

It may well be the next step. I saw this on Facebook recently....it is where we are heading if people continue to ignore the advice. Very worrying

On the other hand they might see that they have paid full council tax on their places in Cornwall so have every right to be there as they will not be getting a rebate. Just a thought.
I think such a blatant disregard for the welfare of the locals with 12 ICU beds across the county might provoke something similar to the N Wales reaction to holiday homes in the eighties. A very warm welcome.

Not condoning it, but if I lived in central London and owned a second home in Cornwall I know where I'd want to be.
They probably justify it by the freeing up resources in the capital.
Not saying it's right, just how I expect they view things especially if they show no symptoms of illness.

Don’t charge them council tax or offer to buy them off them. Surely you can not charge someone for something and not let them have it. Bit like football players taking the money from sky then moaning what time they are expected to play.

I have not been in contact with any one... or near any one since my last hospital visit over two weeks ago..

And after tomorrow treatment and Endiscope thingy at the hospital..... Providing they give me the all clear...

I shall travel up to my little bolt hole... (Which we are paying full Council Tax on as well as our main home.)

I will not be in contact with anyone, I will take the dog out for a walk and will go down the beach fishing... and will stay at least 100yds away from any person`s...

As far as I know I do not have the virus now and DON`t want it.... as for me to get it would certainly spell the end... (Words from my Cardio specialist at last visit.... In view of my situation, I am surprised they have not cancelled tomorrows appointment.)

So, like others travelling to their holiday cottages, unless they have the virus now..

What difference does it make as long as they carry on and Self Isolate. ?????

This goes beyond absolute entitlement just because you pay to have your bin emptied. It’s about being responsible, following advice and considering the impact that your actions might have on others.

I afraid if they have been paying all this time and not had cause to cost anything I would think they see it as ok. If I had paid for something I would want it, you could argue the local is no more entitled then them as they have both paid in . If someone from Cornwall gets taken ill in another part of the country will they be refused medical help. Where does it stop.

Well they've also arrived in Norfolk from London....we too had a very low infection rate but the selfishness of the "well heeled" second home owners up here will soon change that.
What is it with these people, our village has a predominantly elderly population and is in a rural location, thus making it difficult for them to get out and about. From feeling relatively safe in this somewhat isolated environment, the London money has turned up in the Range Rovers and really dont give a shit!
I just hope they don't infect any locals with their lack of consideration and disregard for anyone else.

The chief science officer stated the other day that if we are sensible then we may have less than 20000 deaths, as original poster stated there are not the facilities in Cornwall, If the NHS are anticipating 1000 people to be hospitalized so they have 1000 respirators then because of the tourist influx 2000 people turn up then maybe 1000 people without respirators die.

Wonder if they are the same selfish people who clear out supermarket shelves and think they can do as they like.
They appear to have no social responsibility or moral values, these people only think of themselves.

What if they return to the city and then say Cornwall can decide who is allowed where and can have what they decide. These people now want all migrants and asylum seekers out because the hospital was built before they all arrived and can not cope. Where does it stop. I guess people are all the same really they see themselves as more important or entitled than others and this will just carry on .

I'm glad I'm self isolating as my Tyke accent, whilst not broad, is definitely not 'Janner'

The locals down here would have no hesitation in challenging me, even though I'm only a year off getting "Associate status" on me Passport, having lived with my 'Dumpling' (Devon) wife down here for 19yrs.

I've been practising "Git Orff moi Laaand" but my Franglais is better.

An alternative view. the community of Cornwall and lots of other places are quite happy to have the visitors during the summer. They also cope in ensuring that there are enough foodstuffs and 'stuff' available to encourage the visitors and are constantly looking for ways to extend the season and attract more visitors. so there should be no problem with foodstuffs and groceries etc.

The NHS also allow you to choose to have an operation/surgery at the hospital of your choice, i wonder if any people from Cornwall have ever gone outside of Cornwall and sought treatment? I also have the right to be treated at any hospital if i become ill.

Static van owners, second home owners will all pay 'something' towards council tax - whether in site fees or actual council tax, so those people also have a right to spend time there! Those in the service industry will profit from the extra income as will shops that are allowed to stay open.

i'm not sure if people in Cornwall are aware, but the NHS have to facilities to move patients from one hospital to another, if there were to be a national disaster of some sort in Cornwall, would people from Cornwall be moved to other locations/hospitals etc?

I live in Clacton on Sea, we have a large amount of holiday homes (statics) that are now occupied by 'incomers' - they are trying to find a way of dealing with the current situation, can anyone blame them wanting to do that?

They could all stay at home, like they have been advised to do by the government.
Im sure it wont be long before travel restrictions are put in place like they are in most of Europe now in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.
The virus is only spread by people travelling.
