I had to change the support bearing on the rh side ( mines left hand drive) , a few weeks back & just removed hub assembly from outer cv joint assembly then it all just pulled out from the spline of the gearbox. There should be a small wire circlip in a groove on the inner shaft so a slight bang witha hammer should help.If it has been dismantled before & clip isn't there then it will just slip straight out.

Never split a cv joint before, only ever changed the bellows but there's a couple of videos on YouTube showing the disassembly of a cv joint, looks like they're held on with the same type small wire circlip that holds the driveshaft into the gearbox, just need a good vice and a hefty punch and hammer.

Just remembered Bill.....different engine to be fitted.
Are you sure the shafts are the same length and the splines are the same dimensions.
Many years ago I modded a mk1 escort to front discs off a mk2 escort.
Got the McPherson struts fitted then found the trackrod ends were a different taper and mk2 ends were a different size track rod thread.
Back to drum brakes..

A mate once shoehorned a Vauxhall Cresta 3.3ltr straight six and a 5 speed ZF gearbox into a Bedford CF van.
The propshaft was shortened at the front end and rewelded next to the front UJ spider to suit the extra engine/gearbox length.
The shaft snapped on the motorway at 75mph and destroyed the underbody as it whipped around driven by the rear wheels.
Make sure the welds are good and the shafts are true.
