Considering wintering in Spain... where are the most pleasant places to stay?

Mainly relax, swim, walk if not too hot which assume it won’t be then (Jan/Feb. Eat of course and drink. We have a dog too.

There are hundreds of places that meet your requirements. Unfortunately, lots of people also like them, so you need to make a choice and have a second option in reserve.

You will always get on somewhere.

We have two dogs and tend to stay more down the coast around Almeria, Cabo de Gata is good and lots of space for walking dogs, Tarifa very nice, Cape Trafalgar and along towards Cadiz, Conil de la Frontera, El Rocio (different) really worth a visit.
We usually venture into Portugal as well.
Wherever you go enjoy it! We like the quieter spots.???

Many overwinter in Spain. Favourite places are Benidorm and the Murcia region. Does not get much warmer further south and this is the driest region of Spain in the winter. Nuff said.

They have great facilities, a lovely swimming pool and the site is large with plenty of pitches. The site is right on the beach, part of it is designated especially for dogs.

Last 3 years we have spent 10 weeks in the other Beni - Benicassim. Much more Spanish then further south. Less bars and activities but has its own micro climate, excellent cycling paths including one that follows old railway track along the coast and a long traffic free prom with sandy beach.

Don't go to Benidorm, its full of grumpy funsters, too many places to drink and eat at, it does your head in, it takes too long to walk to the beach , 15 mins hard slog, buses are sky high prices -just put the prices up as well, 1.5 euros to go almost anywhere.
too many dogs and just too many places to take them, overall not a good place to overwinter, and its overpriced.

Another vote for Benicassim for a long stay. Excellent beach and cycling paths.
Depending how long you want to stay for I'd also plan to move around and visit some of the quieter places.

We go to Villajoyosa for 3 months every year love it only a short tram ride to Benidorm

We did 2 months, mid-November 2018 to mid-January 2019, first time we'd done it and loved it ... we meandered down through France, then top West of Spain, into Portugal, down eventually to the Algarve, then headed East into the bottom of Spain, then back up slowly. We used aires/free parking/wild camping spots, no sites etc, it was lovely being able to get away from it all and decide whether we wanted to stop for a few days or move on ... being 'stuck' on a site for a month or more would drive us nuts.

We called in in January this year, just to take a look.

We had a walk around, but completely fully booked with no vacancies.

In fact, most of the sites in the immediate vicinity were either full or very busy. There was some wild and carpark camping around, however.

Benidorm is our worst nightmare.

Have to agree with you, rode through there once on a motorbike, my feet didn't even touch the ground.. Blackpool with sunshine :(

Beni ? Brilliant if that's your bag, there's no doubt you can get anything you want and there are nice places, try the Pontiente beach, it's a different world.
We prefer Calpe.

I think you will have realised from the previous posts, that there are different ways of over wintering in Spain. Some like to stay on camp sites and tour, others stay put for long periods. Many tour constantly and never use sites, favouring camper stops and or wilding. The first thing you need to establish, is which of these categories you fall in. If you want to stay put in one place on a site, then you could try the C&CC for their over winter rallies, where you will be with other Brits at reduced rate, which you can book all in advance. Not our cup of tea, I would hasten to add. All other modes can be done without any form of advance booking and or formal planning.
Horses for courses!

I think you can only go and give it a try......it's almost impossible to recommend places as we vary so much in our likes and dislikes. We tried it out two years ago and wouldn't repeat it. We have stayed in two of the sites mentioned above and hated them...... By the coast many sites were soooo crowded with tiny pitches. We enjoyed it much more in the area north of Tarifa , but it can get very windy there, and its not to everyone's taste... Unless you're very sure I certainly wouldn't make a long term booking in advance...

WHY? BUSBY.
Well for a start, I get the impression it's full of Brits looking for bacon and eggs, plus I read about all the mobility scooters causing carnage..

You dont have to frequent the few streets with Brit bars,,something for everyone in Benidorm, two of the best beaches in Spain,,lovely Old Town,,top class shops and restaurants and the southern beach is probably as quiet as Eastbourne..Admit disability scooters are abused but causing carnage is a bit of an overstatement. You really have to visit a place before commenting,,you may be pleasantly surprised.BUSBY.

We have visited Benidorm, that's how we know it's our worst nightmare. I'm not sure why you're so defensive about it BUSBY, everyone is different! We prefer quiet places that are more authentically Spanish.

Well you have visited so your opinion is valid,,but I think it's important to see places your self and not rely on hearsay.Years ago I was cohearsed into going to Salou/Cambrills,,really didn't want to go because someone told me it was dreadful..Loved it and have visited many times since.I don't like Costa del Sol but I have been a few times and tried it. Don't actually visit Benidorm very often but you need to go to judge.BUSBY.
