So it's an Ford eTransit campervan. I'm guessing about 130 mile range? And it's American, so does it have a washroom?

Usable range? - 80-90 same as diesel, max range not 'normal' - you fill up well before maximum range but with a diesel you can carry a spare can full

Probably 80 mile range in the real world. Pretty useless as a Motorhome then.

If it had 200 miles of real world range AND campsites were ok with you sucking down >13 amps for overnight charges, then it would be in the realms of consideration.

With a range this short, your holiday will be a tour of quick chargers and over caffeination from all the 'while you wait' coffees you'll drink.

Reading some of the linked reports they got up to 140 miles, still disappointing but the vehicle is still in development and range is a key factor for final versions

900W of solar 500W fixed 400W additional sounds interesting

Give it a couple of years I think we will have them with 200 + miles range and under half hour recharge , that would make it a serious consideration for us

They aren't developing the base vehicle, it's a standard Ford eTransit. They might eke out a few more miles by reducing weight or improving aero of something they added, but I'll be small.

Until Ford brings out a longer range eTransit, this is all we'll get. And as it's basically the Mustang Mach e electricals shoved under a van, and that isn't getting a long range battery, I can't see big changes. The F150 Lightening truck has a much more suitable powertrain, but I'm not sure it'd fit in a Transit! I think it's going to happen, but it'll be a while and it's going to be really expensive.

One of the reports said they might change to Mercedes chassis yet, nothing is finalised 👍

Someone we know has the Ford camper, it is definitely compact but they don’t have the longest or tallest option, but it does have a pop top which I really don’t want

There's a revised eSprinter that's just been announced. They are claiming a WTLP range of 248 miles, which is pretty good. That's still going to be well below 200 miles with a tall, long and permanently heavy motorhome.

Prices haven't been announced for the new model in the UK, but it's $70k and we normally pay the same amount in £. That's a $30k premium over the ICE equivalent. So getting an electric PVC with a range that's just about useable currently cost very roughly £30k more than it's diesel equivalent. 😮‍💨

The other issue is, where do the tanks go? Where a motorhome would normally store water between the rungs in the ladder chassis, is going to be filled with battery.

It's also looking like it'll weigh about 700kg more than the diesel van. So it'll have to be a C1 unless the rules change.

Water tanks could go in a double floor, as in winterised A class motorhomes.
But that would add more weight and make the aero even worse. A coachbuild has about 25% more drag than a panel van. Which will have a drastic impact if/when they go electric.

Weight low down is better though, they could develop longer, thinner water tanks to distribute the weight more evenly.
