The theme from Ladies in Lavender by Joshua Bell:thumb:

I heard this classical piece played on Radio 2 recently and it moved me so much I had to contact them and find out who it was by.

Have a listen, I think it's beautiful and reminds me of concerts that we went to recently when our daughter was playing the violin. She is 27 now and has played the violin since she was 7. She still plays in an orchestra in Glasgow.

My lovely lady sings this not quite as good as Luther but pretty dam good. The words can be poignant.

Now that's really weird, I was just going to post that when I saw your post.

You don't say why it affects you but it always reminds me of the Band Aid concert, when they played this track on TV during the BBC programme they showed a heart rending video of (I think) some Ethiopian toddlers who were plainly dying but struggling to get to their feet next to the bodies of their parents.

I think it was also the Band Aid connection that got me, when the song was played over the VT you mention. But I "Googled" it recently to try to find out the meaning of the lyrics. I've put the link below for you, it's quite interesting.

I was just on my way downstairs and said to Bill, what can reduce you to tears? He replied, "coleslaw"! Not quite what I expected:RollEyes:

This one.....

Might seem like a strange choice but in 1978 it really meant something to us and still brings back the memories of those days.

Beautiful song, sung by the voice of an angel. Always brings a lump in my throat.

I totally agree about these two, and also 'Love of My Life' by Queen, 'Softly as I leave you', By Matt Munro, 'When I fall in love', by Nat King Cole, 'God Only Knows' by the Beach Boys, I could find more but its just TOOOOO Sad!

One of our friends died suddenly after a very short illness. He was a true gentleman in every way and I never heard him swear or raise his voice. This is the song they played at his funeral. Everyone was in bits.

Ohhh... And as I get older, an awful lot of tunes have a pretty interesting effect on me..

I have been bloody lucky. Had a GREAT life in the main..

But sometimes, sitting alone somewhere, one of THOSE records from the 60's comes on and it sets the mind back to the days of wine and laughter.. Days that I will remember till the end but know I can never recapture
I really do miss being young sometimes...................

Course, other times I am just happy to be a boisterous, often outrageous, old fart too ! :winky:

Not into sad songs, but my Dad was a Johnny Cash fan and was always strumming and singing his songs. Try as I might I can't help myself playing a bit of Cash now and then if only because it reminds me of my old man.

Long after my dad died, Cash bought out a new album just before he died, of course I bought it and this song was on it.

Knowing he didn't have too long left, after a lifetime of drug abuse, ups downs and God bothering, this a poignant and sad song.

A very beautiful song but why on earth would any one who is not a completely insensitive sadist request it to be played at a funeral !!!!

I spose some folk want to see others weeping and wailing..

Me, I want Monty Pythons Bright side of life and anything else that might raise a grin ..
I do not wanna be remembered as the bloke with the saddest funeral, I want to be the bloke who was remembered for his life not his death !!
