Put a deposit on our new van today and just wondered what this bit of kit is, we looked at two dealers one told us it was a wifi router the other (who we bought from) wasn't 100% sure and said he'd find out for us. If went to the web page on the label and its Oyster TV and Sat's which the van has, so is it something to do with the Sat system or is it wifi.

It is something to do with a network as you’ve give us your network access name and credentials ?

There are RF connectors top right so maybe an old satellite based router

I guess you can log into it using WiFi and control it. There may be an app you have to install on your phone.

Satandpcguy ?

Can’t see a current product matching my theory.

edit: is it a FeatureBox?

Hi Gerry, hope all goes well with your new motorhome, just in time for spring.

Is there a satellite dish on the roof?

Yep, Ten-haaft are the Oyster manufacturers, if you scan the QR code in your pic you will see it looks like it's a satellite broadband receiver.

Yes an Oyster so it must have something to do with this, its confused us when one salesman told us we could put a sim in it and access the internet then use this as a hub.

Thanks Lenny in simple terms what does that mean can I access internet through it with appropriate sim

Hopefully it is as its a brand new van :rofl::rofl: or maybe they bulk bought the out of date ones
Then I guess it will come with instructions. :)
But is it too much to expect the dealer selling the MH to know what is? :)

No, it means you can access the Internet via the sat dish providing you take out an account with a satellite Internet supplier and pay them loads of money each month. Also it won't be anywhere near as fast as mobile network data.

We viewed the same model at 2 dealers one told us we could put a sim in it and access internet, the one we bought from was honest enough to say he wasn't sure and would find out for us collecting the van. I'm happy with that reply as I doubt you could remember every extra in every van and would prefer honesty that BS to get sale.

So I wont be using it then :rofl:

If its a UK dealer yes. I've lost count of the amount Hymer owners where the dealer has stitched then up for a TV aerial because they haven't a clue that Hymers have had inbuilt TV aerials for 15 years or more.

When you scan the QR code it does come up with 02 so perhaps it does take a sim as well but it's locked to 02 and I doubt you can get it unlocked.

Did you scan the code as I never thought of doing that from the photo, then again the photo is on my phone so might be hard to do

If it`s an Oyster sat system there are a few more boxes of elemtronics missing.. and would have a twirling lnb on the dish...

Not sure but I think Jim has the same system as I had on his yank..(y)

It is an Oyster Vision V hideaway box.

It sets up a local WiFi network, to allow you to use an App to turn the blue light on the actual dish on and off, Oh and change things

Daft idea as it means whilst your phone is on the Oyster WiFi you can’t access the internet opfor emails, Facebook and most important MHFUN

It doesn’t give you internet access, just local WiFi

Are the coax cables with the f connectors just to control the dish then?
Why is it tied into 02?

Well thought that I was right, it is the feature box. It doesn't need a SIM card to work

Thanks Eddie, I assume once set up it can then be switched off and your phone can then be used as normal or does it have to stay linked to your phone the whole time.

As promised the dealer contacted me with the answer and a few on here were correct so thanks for your help.
