M-J my wife agrees with you, and that is an accepted definition. My problem is that the media seems to be changing it into a holiday not involving a plane or boat (or Chunnel).
I used to call them "Junk holidays" you may as well not bother. In my case, for someone who is self-employed, a staycation would be staying at home to have a holiday and if the phone rings then go out to do a job. So not really a proper holiday but more a working holiday.
This is the reason I want to have my usual holiday in France and Germany, so I don't have to answer the bloody phone for 2 weeks. Yes of course I can do this in the UK but it's not the same. So for all those who insist on us having a staycation they can **** off.
I read references to staycation often. I've never been in the presence of someone saying "innit, know what I mean?" and the only place I've read it is on motorhomefun.Staycation means taking a holiday in the UK.
Like it or not,our language is constantly changing......”innit,know what I mean?”![]()

If I was staying on the UK it would be work.I always took it to mean staying in the UK.
If you're at home it's a no-cation![]()
I rarely did.I used to call them "Junk holidays" you may as well not bother.
