I’m a one year old
Folks, we have a problem new to us. We're in Switzerland at the moment and the recent heatwave is causing us grief in our loo. The cassette toilet is ponging something rotten. We're avoiding using it whenever possible and I'm emptying and cleaning the unit every day. Still the pong returns with a vengeance. Does anyone know of any tips to stop the smells. No rude replies please. This is getting serious. Cheers

What do you do? Liquid or tabs? How much?

And Zoflora disinfectant. .

What about bi arbonate of soda ..lots of .. and top up with water mixed with white vinegar. Since it's only a once off .. what do you think hilldweller ?

I had to do that down kitchen sink once.

Smells AFTER you have cleaned it? Bio washing liquid straght in after cleaning with about 1 lt of water give it a good slosh leave it for a few hours, rinse repeat, install, use.... rinse and repeat

Hi. Do you mean clothes washing bio liquid? If so, how much to a litre of water?

I use 2 capfulls to 1 lt and yes the cheapest from lidl/aldi but it must be BIOLOGICAL and when your cassette is clean and empty add 2 capfuls and another lt of water and nothing else (ditch the toilet chemicals totally) install, and use the toilet as normal.

when you empty, just add more bio liquid and water, and enjoy the absent smell and the huge savings

You will find it cheaper and I think more effective than toilet chemicals for motorhomes

The pong is probably coming from the waste pipe from your shower and not the toilet and is a well known problem during hot weather. Fenwicks the makers of the widely used Motorhome cleaner make a good waste tank and pipe cleaner that has fixed the problem for us in the past.

I also dump a few capfuls of Bio down my sink and shower on a regular basis followed by good run of the tap and a drive around to treat the grey waste tank as that can stink in hot weather.

That's what I think too, we have plugs for every drain including the shower. Its a lesson that I learned many years ago.
Sounds like their waste tank needs a good clean out & rinse with fresh water afterwards.

Zoflora stinks like piss !

We had a similar issue a few weeks ago when we were on tour. I got the blame for my most recent utilisation of the facility . It's wasn't that noticeable when we were stationary, but whenever we were moving (and particularly with the windows down) the smell emanating from the bathroom stank up the whole van! At the next stop we cleaned the cassette really well and then again before we moved on the next morning, but the reek reoccurred. As DaveandJen mentioned, it ended up being the waste tank. We put some Puriclean down there and it kept it at bay for a week before it returned. Now we're home we've given it a good purge and soak with a Puriclean solution.

Absolutely agree: the grey waste can smell way worse than the bog. Especially if if you put seafood and garlic in it like me.

Milk...

Agree , check the pong not coming up from the drains.

Tip we got from Scotties .. Dump a couple of litres of pure fresh orange juice down the sink just before you leave somewhere......... Leave it in for the journey and the use the sinks/shower as normal for a day before you dump your grey.... Works like magic !

Agree with it likely to be drains.
2 litres of coca cola should sort it out after you have dumped the waste.
the smell is like rotten eggs ?

We regularly pour thin liquid bleach into our sink and shower plug holes just before leaving on our homeward journey.

It then gets swished around the waste tank as we drive. Drain and flush at home and it keeps everything sweet.

If I can’t get to it straight away and travelling I put the plugs in the sink holes and some water in the sinks.
Same with loo make sure blade is shut the run some water into bowl and leave it there, smell can’t get thru water!

Drop a lighted match in there and forget the van get a plane home.???????????????
