I had this problem which was sorted out by the dealer with a bit of silicon spray.
I do recall that someone has made 3d printed tool somewhere.

I had same problem and bought a device from PaulandChrissy who is a member on this forum. Try messaging him. Mine works great 😊

Thanks for replies
Locks n unlocks fine it’s getting it out which is difficult just wants to spin around even when I try n push it in and turn!
I have took it off now and nearly threw it over hedge🤣
I haven’t replaced it now, will wait till travel and then not going to lock it see if that helps 👍

I may have understood the problem, and my only experience of lockable caps is the fuel filler cap on an A-class mh, but turning the lock barrel to the 'other' extreme position makes it work. Mainly because I turned it the wrong direction in the first place!
Just a thought.

Mine did the same. Found that the outer blue was turning but the locking catch bit wasn’t. First solution was to ram in cocktail sticks and break off. This worked for a while until the would got soggy. Next solution was the same but add superglue. This worked and is still working one year on. Hi-tech stuff, eh? 😜

I'm guessing that there might be more than one type of lockable water filler cap? We have one on ours and apart from being a bit tatty (it is, as far as I know, 15 years old), we've never had a problem locking or unlocking and removing. Is there a "difficult" one then that I should avoid if I need to replace our old one?

Yeah very good, I have arthritis in hands and found it difficult to push in and twist but that works a treat 👍
I found my cap unlocked fine but once unlocked was often very hard to unscrew.
Paul&Chrissy's "gripper" makes the job simple.

I have bought a few things from him, all been a great help including the tray to stop water dripping onto top engine onto injectors (fiat ducato problem)
Same here. (y)
He’s also made me some custom bits including a set of cooker knobs! He even made a set of about 6/7 different sized “ middles “ so the grip on the metal spline was a perfect fit. Not too tight but not too loose either. Top work! (y)
Oh and a custom bracket for my heated grip switch on my KTM!

Am really tempted by one of these, last time i was way on my own had to fill up through the tank lid under the seat.
It is however John's job to fill up, suspect if i can open the cap easily it might end up being mine.
Just can't open it left handed and have a dodgy right wrist.
