Our peugeot sockets seem fine for the plug in adapters, not as firm as the Chinese marine ones but OK.

If you're going to fit a USB socket it needs to be high quality. I fitted this aluminium one in our van, I tested it for interference and overheating and it's ok.

Twin port Q3 fast charging with voltage read out. They are about ÂŁ12 on ebay.

I take it you have an X250 as the ones in the X290's are OK. The ones in the X250 meet the DIN standard but they are right on the top tolerance.
You can either change the socket or get a plug/adaptor with the spring type earth connectors on the side that you can tweak a bit.

or the hella sockets used in continental vans. I know sometimes our only option is to use the "as fitted" 12v sockets

I didn't know Fiats are non-standard, I have a x250 and not had any problems with them.

I have a fiat ducato and they are standard, just seem a little loose and the plug can disconnect itself, very annoying

I used one of these.

Our Fiat compressor doesn't even fit one of the Fiat dash 12v sockets. Luckily I butchered the other to use in the hab area where Rapido fit an ISO as standard so use the compressor from that 12v plug now.

We just use the twin USB sockets on a cigarette lighter plug type (ie not Heller) sometimes. Nothing special about it - just one we got from a BP garage using their points. I think using the Fiat fitted USB socket next to it gives more power, though, as on the occasions we need to plug in a tablet or phone running Google maps using the BP plug the device runs down, whereas on the fiat socket it charges. The BP one is good enough to charge a phone in standby mode though.

Richard, can you help me by showing an e bay link for that QC 3 please , or any other of equal quality ? As I prefer not to rely on my unqualified electrical judgement of good quality devices.

When using USBs, either in the Fiat USB socket or via an adapter in the 12v socket, make sure you upgrade your leads too, we used our existing USB leads for yonks but recently hubby got some thicker/better ones off Ebay and the difference in how much charge they put in is fantastic, we used to be lucky to keep the tablet (which we use for sat nav) sufficiently powered for long journeys when in use as it always reduced regardless, but with the new leads it keeps it full all the time.

This is the one:

There's a newer one now though with an on/off switch 🤩 looks like the same aluminium quality :

Here are a few QC USB Chargers.

This is one I purchased recently, for use in a 12v double socket in the Habitation area.

The cigarette sockets in our burstner are smaller than the standard ones but we managed to pick some usb adapter ones at one of the shows.

I think you are confusing the standard socket in the Fiat dash with the Hella sockets in the hab area.

I didn’t and some on here say there are not. My pair in a 2007 Fiat allow the plugs to lean and thus disconnect just at the wrong time.
Glue didn’t work!
yes, I know it’s being used but it’s meant to be. Perhaps hard wiring is the solution.
