I don't think you will get an unlimited one in the UK so you had better move to Portugal.:)

Vodafone or EE are usually the best for data, if not in a hurry hang on and monitor Vodafone, they often have deals.

I looked at doing the same but really don't know how much data we use now as our ISP doesn't count streaming in useage and lately we watch more TV streaming than live so decided not worth the risk as it gets expensive if you go over the limit.

I negotiated with EE. They matched Vodafone's 100gb for £20 A month. Sim only deal.
I don't know about MiFi.

We have been without a landline and wired broadband for 3 years now.
We are fortunate that under the Rural Mobile initiative ( or something similarly named) we had two mobile phone masts built in line of sight of our house.
That is the starting point for any thoughts on using mobile broadband. We got friends/family to bring their mobile phones to our house and find which carrier has the best reception at the point in your house you want your mifi sited.

Because we are on the road for 230+ days a year we decided on a spread of carriers over our two phones (both capable of tethering ) and the mifi and currently use EE, Vodafone & 3. With a combined total of 60gb per month and we never get anywhere near overspend.

There are companies now that offer 30 day rolling contracts that you could consider to see which suits you.

Also bear in mind companies such as Virgin which allow rollover of data.

Those are for phones Jock. These are for MiFi and tablets.
Yes, I know Graham, but I too had heard that Three data phone sims were now compatible with MiFi's, and If I hadn't got Vodafone's 100Gb deal when I did, I'd have been on the Three deal. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Can anyone confirm if 3 now allow hotspots abroad?

I think 3 only allow a maximum of 19 gig of data abroad irrespective of your data plan. I would be happy to be told this is not the case as I am in the market for a new contract!

I don't think a VPN would make any difference your connection is still to the local cellular network and that's what they will be getting the information from.

My wife is with 3 currently but I think we will shift to Vodafone. There is s 44gig deal with mobiles.co.uk which is sub £20.00.

I am with Vodafone and have had no issues at all with mobiles.co.uk cashback system very quick and can all be done via the web.

Anyone any experience of Vodafone's approach to leavers? Do they try and do a deal etc?

Be aware that Three restrict data usage, when in Europe, to 19gb (fair usage policy) per month (was 13gb then 15gb)regardless of what your UK allowance is. I was paying for 40gb and was extremely miffed when my allowance ran out when in Spain. I have now taken out a 12month contract with Vodaphone for 100gb data allowance for £20 per month. The full 100gb data can be used anywhere in Europe. Tethering is allowed so I can stream my tablet or smart TV via my phone or simply cast from my phone to the TV.

Three removed the use of phone sims in phones only back in April 2018 so you can use one in a MIFI if you wish, or just use it in your phone and tether (no restriction on tethering). The only limit you have with Three, other than the contract you have with them, is that you can only use 19gb of data per month when abroad (check the T&Cs for how long as I believe it still has the 2 months in 4 policy).

You could take a look at Smarty, newish online only provider that uses the three network, I think they only have three or four options one of them unlimited. I took the £10.00 per month which gives me 4 gb of data. Any not used in a month is refunded @ £1.25gb off the next months rolling contract. Or If I go over then they charge me the same.
I went with them as the deal gave me unlimited text's and calls and can be used as a hot spot so I have now ditched my mifi negating the need to purchase time limited data only sims.
If I needed unlimited I would certainly look at there deal for that. I had been with three for the last ten years but they could not match Smarty's deal.
