I’m a newbie and lovin’ it.
Hello Funsters. We’ve owned our Chausson for 2 months and loved every escape we’ve managed to ram in. So far we’ve visited sites in Leicestershire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire and Wales. We’ve got a week booked in October (2nd week). We are hoping to travel for a week but would appreciate advice. Does anyone have any route suggestions or any proposed sites that might still be open at this time of year. We are happy to go anywhere that’s dog friendly.

Thanks everyone

We are having a weekend in York in Oct, then down to NEC for a day,,couple of nights at Harbury Fields Campsite to take in Warwick castle and Stratford, then down to Cheltenham for a weekend with some family

Probably will tour weekends right through winter between work days

loads of major sites are open longer now, end of sept used to be the end of season but even the big haven/hoseason sites are staying open until the end of oct
plenty of smaller sites to choose from also

There is a half term in October so might see a price rise on some sites for that period

Might be worth looking at campsites with hard standing. The ground in October could be very soft so some hilly sites would not be accessible. We have stayed in the summer on a lot of lovely small sites but I would not like to take our motorhome on them if the grass was very wet

We've been many times to the New Forest. Very "dog friendly", loads to do and much fresh air :)

As I'm sure you know October can be a lovely month to travel the UK - or it could be an absolute washout. Two things are almost certain though - it will be a lot cooler and it gets dark earlier so whatever you decide I would plan to have an alternative to suit your particular likes.

Have you thought about "theming" your break? We are members of National Trust and English Heritage and have had a couple of weeks exploring a particular area visiting as many of their locations as we can get interested in. You don't have to do NT & EH of course, you may be interested in old railways or taxidermy in the 1800's. Amazing what Google can offer these days!

We're not all that bothered about campsites, quite happy on the small CL's and CS's of the major clubs, but we've recently started including pub stops and usually have a nice meal and a drink - not every night of course but we look on it as a bit of a treat as we don't do it at home. Not averse to a bit of wild camping either in suitable spots - but perhaps not when it gets dark early.

There was a very recent thread about Haven Holiday parks, some very good deals if you like that sort of thing, although if it's half-term there may not be many bargains there.

The thing about motorhoming that we love is the ability NOT to have to plan anything and to change our minds at a whim, or if the weather turns against us. We've been known to start out for somewhere and end up at a completely different place! Just drive to the end of the lane and toss a coin over which way to turn! In the latest MMM, Andy Stothard only travelled 8 miles from home for an interesting break.

Thank you to everyone for your comments, it sounds promising and I think we’ll be avoiding half term. He advice about hard standing is great idea.

Thanks again.
