We tiptoed over the border this morning from Spain
The motorway was coned off to get everyone to the machine to Reg. the vehicles onto their Toll system.
The two lads from GNR were manning the cones and had no interest in us.

Now the tip.
Tavira is rammed, however 4 days ago, I sent the lovely people here asking to reserve a pitch.
Back came the reply asking for Reg No and, when I had supplied that, another message arrived advising us that there was a place and to arrive before 12 noon which we duly did and got on.
There was even a bucket complete with our Reg. No. on it in the middle of the pitch.
Thing is, on entering Portugal, we were met by masses of motorhomes.
One cannot just wild in Portugal as in days of old.
Do yourself a favour and prebook.

Just been up to the office and spoke to the delightful Carina.

Tavira is full every day at 5pm.

The best time to turn up is 10.00am.
You can park outside.
The best day to turn up is Monday when more people leave after the weekend.

Good advice at present but whats going on does defeat the object of an aire. Hopefully things will get back to normal when Morocco opens up again.

Hi Derek & Mary, wasnt sure where you were, back here or still over there
Google maps needs updating over here, its not showing Tavira Park as being built yet:giggle:
Is it still 8EU or 10EU with lecky?, great value if it is, bit of a walk to the big shops though, you might need to leave your "Reserved" bucket out if you take the van out.
Have fun, best wishes.

Hi,
Don't think it's at the nosebleed level of 8amps.
Management in our van has just read its 5amp.
Edit, just realised, you were asking about charges. It's 10.5 emus With EHU. Showers are a €1 but there's room for two at a time. :Eeek:
Add to that the fact that the place is full, and the majority are, how shall I say, camping caristes? who try to squeeze a Lt. out of a pint pot and I can envisage that 5amps being under threat.
jongood, I appreciate what you say but there is a World of difference bet. an Aire? and a Camperstop on the Algarve in the middle of Winter.
Even in the height of Summer, the Aires in France (with the exception of those close to a favoured coast) can cope.
Portugal is behind Spain with regard to the provision of places to stop in a van.
Add to that, the portugueses official attitude to Wilding and I'm afraid it will be some time before we have the touring opportunity of touring that we can in, say, France.

BTW, I was told that, as a result of the Portuguese elections yesterday there will be no 'softening' of the attitude to Wilding, so it isn't going to improve in the short term.

And in totally unrelated news, last night we were in the company of several peeps from Germany. On our side was an English German speaker.
During the chat it transpired that our 'cousins' were totally unaware that we were restricted to 90/180.

They reckon it was never discussed and as a result of us becoming a' Third' country, we were saddled with the 90 by default.

Sorry Derek. I thought it was an aire not a camperstop.

Regarding the 90/180 I've heard that our sidecwerecoffered reciprocal ie 180/ 365 but they turned it down. Thats the problemwith politicians, cock anything up

So if these camperstops are filling up by 1700 in January what the hell is going to happen in summer?

Have the government really equated the number of MHs with the available pitches?

What happens if MHs are queuing outside a camperstop/campsite and the GDR come along? Are they all going to be fined for wildcamping?

I do like the fact that there website states how many pitches are available at the moment.

It's an artificial situation here in Spain, there are a lot of motorhomes here that would normally be in Morocco and due to the uncertainties its also been difficult to get any other winter holiday

Not as bad in the summer Geoff on most Camperstops...because if they lack shade they are not popular....and all the winter visitors are back in their home country..
It's crazy in Iberia right now....causing local residents to demand the Town Halls act to restrict motorhomes in many places.
We are in our motorhome right now...just one other here....anyone want the location, send me a PM.... I'm sure I'll reply...

Ordinarily I could see that happening but probably not at Tavira.
Here's the reason.
If you look at the map on this thread you'll notice the rail track that crosses the road just by the Camperstop.
It is not possible to cross the line by vehicle at this point and therefore the road is one long cul de sac with no houses or industry to get upset.
Yesterday afternoon there was a steady stream of disappointed vans turning around.
Forewarned is forearmed.

We couldn’t get on this place when we visited in March full before 10 am. So headed to the campsite run by the Portuguese police. Brilliant quirky site at only €12 a night. So a good alternative if the camper aire is full.
