Nearly always go to France and back on the Eurotunnel. Got that off pat.

But next week, doing Portsmouth - Caen on the ferry. Might be sunny with a beer on deck. :D

Any suggestions for stopover for the night before in/near Portsmouth and the night after in/near Caen, very much appreciated. Permitted stop over places seem to change all the time. I hear the barriers often down on the nearby Portsmouth park and ride.

Getting better month by month.
Hayling Island is always a firm bet, but it is quite expensive or you have Port Solent which is often used by many. Don't have any idea about Caen though.

If you are an early morning sailing you can stop on Portsmouth docks, we had a late afternoon one, travelled overnight and parked up with a couple of other motorhomes till it was time to book in. Cant help with Caen never been there

Yes we have an 8.15 sailing and that’s what I was hoping for. Wonder what if it’s possible to stay overnight?

At Portsmouth I would highly recommend the Churchillian pub about 2 miles out overlooking the port. Good meals and quiet with easy access. In Caen the Aire at the port is ok. Enjoy your trip .

For info, I spoke to the Churcillian as we are also looking at staying over night locally ready for the 08:15 ferry, they were very helpful and quite happy for us to use their car park but the car park has a gate that’s locked from 22:30 ish until 09:00 which is geat for security but not if we need to leave the car park before 09:00 ☹️

Look like it’s either the ferry port itself or Port Solent. Does anyone know if there arre any restrictions or has any general helpful advice for Port Solent?

Thanks
Andy

Anyone with thoughts on
The Thatched House
https://www.searchforsites.co.uk/marker.php?id=26920

sailing next week 9am crossing and looking for a overnight before.

Thanks for making us aware of this, we ended up staying here Thursday night before our 08:15 ferry Friday. It’s a pretty standard Green King chain pub and certainly not a ‘thatched cottage’ but the staff we”re really friendly and welcoming for us to stay over for the night. It’s at the end of a deadend road and you park in the extended car park next to the pub so a nice secure location and with great views over the water (stunning sunrise!). The food was relly quite good and they had a great range of beers, gins and whiskeys. To top it off, we joined in with the pub quizz which was quite a laugh. We thought is was excellent and will be our go-to stop over point from now on.
