If alko rear chassis then yes - our old van had the underslung tray you wind down........ be warned it can be a case of lying on the ground to undo the main hook and you then lift the rack up and lower down so can be heavy and tricky...... but better to have a spare than none (eg if you damage the rim then the breakdown guy has to find you a new wheel and tyre)

My Rapido on a fiat chassis did not have a spare, but i fabricated a hanger for the winding mechanism, however i have seen some chassis with the correct crossmember al ready in place. You need to get under and take photos of what youve got for further comment.

Our 2001 Fiat chassis Hymer has a spare wheel carrier underneath just in front of rear axle.
I believe you can get a wind done type for newer vans, as an example

I'm a newbie, but owned a caravan about 30 years ago.
I had a look underneath and found the pre-drilled and tapped holes in the chassis just behind the rear axle. Eventually found relatively new winch mechanism on ebay for total of £80 incl postage. Only other thing I had to buy was 2 x 100mm long M10 bolts with nuts etc. Was a doddle to fit. It works a treat and saves a lot of space.

Yes.Easy job with a Fiat chassis.I purchased a nearly new steel wheel, slightly worn matching tyre and the Fiat wind down holder from Halmerend. There are a couple of how to videos on YT but very straightforward.Had to make a slight compromise on the fitting of the winder due to my towbar but provides great peace of mind.
