We only now realise we'd save LPG by using the campsite hook up for heating the van !
We are in Germany about to cross to Poland andCzech republic but have got a day or two around Zittau now where we could hunt for these items.
Does anyone know a good German chain that would carry them?
Many thanks

OBI is good , a bit like B&Q and they also sell gas and all the fittings too.

5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
Be careful if the supply is metered.Once ended up with a large bill trying to save the gas. Colin
Yes Germany has the most expensive electricity in Europe and it's usually metered.

Still struggling to find this
There's only 1000 watts upwards in the shop recommended at the start of this thread. Do you think a caravan shop would be better?
Also we are driving to Poland and Czech Republic soon so would it he cheaper there?

800watt radiator will only take the chill off and not 'heat' the van.
If looking for warmth 1000w+ will be better, although probably not suitable for some ehu...

When on electric hook up, your only limiting factor is the amperage of the supply.
A 1000w radiator will draw 1000w/230v or just over 4amps.
If campsite has a 4amp supply you risk tripping the fuse, but on a 16amp site you'd be fine. 16amp x 230v = over 3500 watts !
Think about it, would you hesitate to use a hair dryer or electric kettle ? Both are generally over 1000watts. No problem on a UK site, perhaps an issue if staying on small site or aire with a 4amp supply... hope this helps, there are lots of other threads with better explanations than mine !

So I guess the advice to get a low wattage was because of campsites limiting their output?
So I still need to find these heaters though.
Although with most camp sites closing after end of October we might
not be on unlimited hook up often

Yes, most likely. We bought a 700w rad for exactly that reason. Won't trip a 4amp supply but won't give off much heat either...

We use a small thermostatically controlled fan heater it gets the van warm quickly and cuts in and out as required usually use on low setting

Both those are what we are looking for. We'll keep hunting and try the other ideas suggested on this thread

not long enough
You should be able to find standard higher outputs with switches to set the actual consumption, so you can then use as appropriate for the site, you will just need to remember to turn down, will make the hunt a lot easier (y)

edit - an example of a fan heater with 750W or 1500W use

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warmlite-...848579?hash=item3abc746803:g:lTcAAOSwFMZWqjkV

not recommending this one, just an example, same applies to radiators (y)
