couple of years and loving it
Just arranged for a motorbike carrier to go on the back of my Motorhome with a limit of 150kg. Looking for general advice on picking a bike scooter to purchase. I have a full bike licence so that should help. We need something that will take us on the odd day out in some sort of comfort while not being dangerously slow.
many thanks

Steve

Honda SH125 12bhp 113kg 👍

I bought the 110 vision (8bhp) and it's a bit slow if going up hill with 2 on.

A slightly less practical, but lots more fun is the KTM Duke 390 44bhp 150kg

I,m governed by the back axle weight. With other kit I need to get scooter down to 110 kg or less.
For us a step through scooter ticks boxes for carrying lots of shopping and letting pillion get on without throwing a leg over......
Then its a weight vs. Power of the scooter. Weights quoted are often dry weights, no helmets, topboxes included.
Time for some sums.
Watling towbars do, or did, a calculator which took into account how far behind the axle the scooter was and how much would be added to rear axle and removed from front axle.

We’ve got Honda Vision. Two up can maintain 50mph on main roads but it will slow on hills! We try to keep to smaller roads. Managed some 1 in 3 hills last week, not fast but managed no problem two up. Top box and under seat storage for helmets, shopping etc. Keep them in van when travelling to reduce weight in rear. Comfy seat. Reliable.

I bought a new honda sh125 mode 4 weeks ago. So pleased with the performance and looks.
I bought a new Honda SH125 19 years ago, still got it, done 45000km, still runs fine. Also pleased with performance and looks. On one memorable day I went up and down Mont Ventoux, a famous Tour de France climb, five times, ferrying autoroutress, and two friends whose scooter broke down.

First ,I would have thought, is you need to ensure that you have any weight allowance on the back axle?
Yes this is a concern I have but I’m told having a tag axled kontiki 649 should help. That said I’ve got air con self levelling as extra weight so mot
Sure what tolerance I have.

thanks for responses so far! Keep them coming.

Had 64mph (indicated) out of our Honda Vision 110 down hill flat out the other day. Was on my own riding back from the MOT station with my chin on the speedo 🤣

Does anyone use a retro scooter, I’d like a nice looking bike and the old mod bikes look great. I’m guessing modern versions are a little impractical?

We have an Xmax 300. Plenty of power. Not sure of the weight as we trailer it.

Time for the weighbridge. Full and both axles.
