While parked outside a busy local take away chip shop today in Mold { waiting for My partner to bring out our food } I observed a middle aged woman park up and walk towards the chip shop with half a £10 note "hanging out of Her mouth" while she fumbled with Her keys etc
The responsible chip shop has a one way system with only 3 customers allowed at any one time with mask wearing in the shop mandatory.
Who knows where the £10 has been or where it ended up.
Presumably in the chip shop till mingling with the other notes.

Right at the start of all this I went into a local Sainsbury’s, picked up a paper and went to the counter to get cigarettes, went to get a £10 note out of my wallet, couldn’t separate them so automatically touched my fingers to my lips, girl on the counter refused to accept it, I was puzzled until she said you licked your fingers, hadn’t realised I had done it.

seen something similar on Thursday at the local coop; guy probably in his late 50's, walks in the door just behind me, no mask, straight past the sanitiser stand to the cash machine, takes out cash puts a note in his mouth while he sorts his wallet as he walks through the shop to the main till buys something. hands the note over to the cashier.

at the moment i pay by card whenever i can. its not worth the grief to say anything just try and avoid people like this guy. its

I've had a 20 and a 10 pound note in my wallet since before Xmas, haven't used cash at all,all done contactless except when over 45 squid. (y)
I’m the same, if you have an iPhone you can scan your card into my wallet and then-use it contactless, you are not stuck to a limit, I’ve often used it in the supermarket for amounts over £90.
Just the same as inserting your card.

The only reason have used cash recently and that’s been for the window cleaner. We put a fiver on the bin lid under a pebble. No change required so less risk.
Are the newer plastic notes any safer than the old ones.

What we really need is Money Laundering!
Here's some I did last week.

That's cheap.£13 at my nephew's in essex

I think I might have spent about £30 in total since the start of lockdown 1 largely at the place we go to get eggs theres a plastic container with disinfectant in you just drop in the cash £1 half a dozen.

I haven't touched cash at all since last March. All payments are made online or contactless. If I have to insert the card I immediately wash it and my hand with the sanitiser kept in my pocket.
I even pay my window cleaner online.

yes, does make you wonder? Perhaps people have forgotten that there are at least 250,000 germs on any bank note?

rememeber there is also a life before covid, where people used to wash there hands and tried to make sure germ transmission was at a minimum.

Covid has just highlighted it and made it more.
This brings us to the "offset" effect where not as many will die of colds and flu etc due to the increased hygiene and social distance

There's still bank notes - I think my grandad told me about them, but I thought they'd been abolished years ago 🙂

My bank wrote to me saying my cash card will be cancelled through lack of use.
I mean it’s good they’re monitoring for unused services but do they not know I’m staying in?

I dont have a bank account so all cash, not a problem round here so far 👍

Really?

We are now so sanitised that there are more allergies, illnesses because we are too clean !

I use Google Pay on my android phone to pay contactlessly for everything, because of covid. This service is, I think, limitless. Yesterday I paid £520 contactless with it for a mechanics bill.

I think it's fairly secure because for someone else to use it they would have to cut my finger off because it uses finger print recognition.

Also Apple Pay is limitless.
The cards are still £45
It must be because the phones (& watches) need unlocking. Hard to do if lost.
A lost card is good to go.

Indeed. Last time I had a new card the bank sent me one with contactless. I don't like it for the reason you gave. If it's lost down the pub whoever finds it could have a great night at my expense. So I took it back into my local branch and asked for one without contactless. The cashier tried to tell me that it wasn't possible to get one without the new contactless facility. So I told her I wanted to withdraw all my funds and close the account. The cashier went off to get a manager and I got a new contactless free card.

The only cash I've used over the lockdown (No1 & its subsequent sequels) is as birthday gifts for the younger member's of the family. Not very imaginative I know. But in my defence I am the weird uncle after all.:giggle: Strangely enough, none of them have ever returned the cash:rolleyes:

We’re also raising a generation of kids that will have absolutely no natural immunity to anything. Their future will include lots of colds, coughs etc.

There's moves to increase the £45 to £100

That's just daft. Lost wallet and I'd be potless in a couple of taps. I thought being able to spend £45 with literally no security checks was bad enough.

Thankfully most of the time I don't take my cards out and use my phone. My money is nice and secure with finger print recognition technology.

Look out for muggers carrying bolt cutters. The new challenge to single men will be 'your money or your wife'.

I read through these posts and think... are we getting paranoid.
Yes there is a risk of contamination from a bank note... but come on what is the risk... 1in2 1in200000 1 in !????
What about the mail through letter box or parcels delivered or your hand picked Tesco delivery.
I have never sanitized any of these....lucky or living life???
Oh and don't say you know him or her who has unfortunately secumbed to this awful thing.. I too have relatives who are now buried but I am still here and if you are reading this then you are still here too.!!!
Let's just take what is thrown at us and get on with life. I 😇😇
