Safefill LPG

Interesting
I've been looking at alternatives for my 2 x 11kg Calor gas bottles

I've looked at prices for Gaslow bottles (and been quoted £1,000 to install!)
GasIT
Autogas

I'd not heard of SafeFill before, it looks like a good option, however it also looks like it's difficult to obtain bottles! There are no suppliers south of Coventry or Norwich!
And they don't sell on line!
A new 10kg SafeFill bottle is available on ebay for £178 - Is that cost about right ?

Are there any other bottles I should be looking at ?

From the little I have learned it seems the company up in Stoke is the importer and distributor. They then sell on to Leisure outlets for the retail sale.
it's a regular thing for these to become hard to get once the camping season kicks off as people start to buy them and then the importer then does not get new stock until later in the year.

I paid £158 for my 10kg in May 2019, prices look like they have gone up and the £178 seem's to be standard. The one you have seen on ebay is most likely my local caravan place (y)

£1000 for a two bottle 11kg setup seems steep.

I fitted our 11kg gasit plus with filler etc for about £220. You should be able to get all the bits inc a cavagna changeover for about half of your quote.

Drag yourself along to a rally and bet someone would help you fit it as well.

Not used a safefill but assume you can't fill them on the van and have to tske them out of the locker. Depends what you fancy. Both do the same job just different filling methods.

Hi, I recently bought 2x 10kg Safefill cylinders from Marine Power, near NORWICH for £151.20 each, they do ship them, as it was an option when I bought mine, but I collected as they are only 10 miles from me, beware to anyone who chooses to collect though, as there is a railway bridge on their lane with a 3m height limit!
Nice people to deal with though, I specifically wanted to collect, to check that they would both fit in my Hymer Van gas locker, before buying.

Yes that's about the going rate , I recently bought a smaller 7.5kg Safefill cylinder for my caravan and paid £165 delivered
I also have 2 x 10kg Safefill in my motorhome and a set of euro adapters and have filled them multiple times in across Europe only ever having one refusal in Spain

Don't know if I've missed it and someone has already posted this, but we always used to go to our local Asda but it was a faff, so I googled Auto Gas stations there are at least 5 within 5 miles of us same a lot of places, they are usually on a industrial estate, no queing no hassle the guy comes out fills up totally stress free. Works much better for us.

Hi.
I know it was a long time ago,but i phoned the Company (In Stoke then ?) and paid by card, the bottles arrived two days later. Only sold them because of going m/homing and havingBulk a Bulk tank. Advertised them one day,had a phone call, both gone by tea time.
Tea Bag

definate no no for any type of bottle even if permanently plumbed to outside filler connection.
My local Calor depot is simply fill & pay. How would yours know what is connected to your filler inlet??

I am looking for a cheap used safefill !
No such thing......what does that tell you
when I sold my 7.5 kg on e bay 3 years ago I got £14 less than i paid for it 3 years prior

you may know I have just retired from MoHo owning, and I sold my 10kg (2 years old) for £145

Brian’s that’s about right for that size got one just before Christmas eBay had a 15%discount cannock caravans I think ( don’t know who funds the discount )

I've been using SafeFill on my current van in preference to GasLow. I bought SafeFill because they were lighter but they were also cheaper (I think) and simpler to install (no special pipework or hole in the side). Also enabled BBQ & Genny use without another outlet being plumbed in.
I've since found another bonus: a builder's merchant who will fill without charging VAT because it's for heating rather than propulsion (I nip round using the car). Remote refills have been rare but not had any difficulty when needed.

That’s interesting regarding the VAT!

Got ours delivered from Cannock (see tonka post above) within two or three days.
Having said that, had waited for a good while for them to come back into stock as they were changing to a new style.

Yes, but I don't think it's very common to get it VAT free - probably too much trouble/accounting for the retailer to go through.
Saving VAT just reduces a low price a little bit more and is not worth going out of the way for. Price isn't everything (and the country needs our taxes)! It's strange how we merrily shell out £k's for a unit to then gripe about operational costs...

They have a 10 year safety warranty
Well it's not a warranty as such. Gas cylinders have to be tested every 10 years (some 15 years) to comply with safety regulations. Usually at that stage, the valve is removed, purged, some resprayed, new valve fitted and given a 10 year life, as it were. This is basically for industrial cylinders but all cylinders have to comply with the safety regulations. For example, you might see a 'brand new' oxygen cylinder but chances are its decades old and refurbished. When the new European regulations came in to change colours, gas suppliers were given 10 years to comply as this would be done at that time.
Hope this helps as it's a safety regulation as opposed to a warranty.

It shoukd be reduced-vat everywhere except filling stations
I think it is only 5% vat on heating fuel and most independant supplier’s systems should have the option at check out

Yep, perhaps I should've said "VAT-reduced".
It's the net price that matters to me, rather than how it's made up. Pretty sure they charged less than 50p/ltr last time.

One in gumtree but I’m in Spain, guy wants a quick sale as house getting repossessed

Paid £150 for mine at the time and local to us garage actually comes out to fill it for you. The price averages around £10 for eah fill simmilar amount in euros. Any autogas supplier on the continent is OK to fill at and some still do self service ie Mojacar recently assistant came out and filled up for us. We use one safefil and one Spanish when we are away as it saves going offsite for it every time.Well pleased with it. Had Alugas on Rapido but when we changes to Elddis fo a while they would not fit in locker so reluctantly sold them (11kgs). They would fit this M/H.The main point is Calor gas is an absolute ripoff and the ammount you save by using safefil is really noticable. Ie 22kgs of Safefill around £10, one Calorlight 6kg around £25!

Calvers, a local merchant, but I've heard that others also do this. Hardly worth a trip to Wolverhamton, unless you live within a few miles, Peter.
