With LPG filling stations getting less and less for fitted bottles (larger vans) has any one took the Safefill bottles option, cheaper than most systems and easy to remove the nip to Morrison’s as they are an approved supplier for Safefill and there is always a Morrison’s within a short drive.

Not for the main tanks but I was interested in it as a refillable for the BBQ.

I have two 10kg ones.
One is a branded safefill, the other is identical but unbranded from a place in Leicester. Lpg shop I think ..
Lucky for me there is an independent place just 2 miles away so I put them in the car and fill up there.

Only filled once while travelling, that was at a big motorway station in Germany back in September this year.

Well our Alugas 2000 bottles are almost 10 years old this year so will be looking for replacements and the fact these can be refilled almost anywhere looks a good alternative to fitted bottles.

The regulations say that composite cylinders have to be tested / replaced at 5 years ⚠️☹️???

One of the advantages of refillables for me is not having to hump heavy gas bottles about. Safefill doesnt meet this requirement. Anyway surely you fill them at the same pump as ordinary refillables.

Hi.
Had two on a caravan And loved them,i thought they were lighter ? But then again they only did the one size,i think now there are several. Would i have them again ? Yes. :xThumb: :xThumb:

Having had underslung gas on last van went down the route of safefill 10kg on this van much lighter than Calor and have the advantage of more usable in general for van and bbq if needed and easy for me to take and be refilled without taking my if required live near an auto gas distributor and is well priced but tight for a 7.5 metre mh so a winner for us each to his own

OP did mention larger vans some or Morrison’s for forcourts are a bit tight.

There was a report in this month's MMM saying Morrison's are refusing to allow Motor homes to fill with LPG.

That was a letter from a reader so not sure that they were trying to refill SafeFill bottles as sounded more like an onboard tank?

I have heard of some people trying to fill ordinary bottles that are not meant to be refilled by the public, but could not imagine any one on here trying to do that as it can be dangerous if overfilled.

I always thought on board underslung tanks were more acceptable than removable bottles. Saying that I am underslung and last time I went to Morrison's managed ok but that was around April time.

My local Calor Centre always come out when they see me pull up but are ok when they see I have underslung tank but definate no no for any type of bottle even if permanently plumbed to outside filler connection.

I bought 2 10kg Safefill bottles. plus the adapters for filling abroad only yesterday, yet to fill them up!

Limited filling retailers overseas by the look of it. None in France or Spain.

Standard LPG pump.
I just pulled in garage when in Germany, opened locker door and filled.
OK I was on the far side of the cashier and no idea if anyone was watching via CCTV but on my van no need to remove the bottle...

If I get refused I will just try the next one.. :xThumb:

Where will you fill them abroad?
At most of the garages with LPG/GPL pumps,as suggested many times on here. "Go for the LPG first if filling both up,if you get kicked back, just drive on to the next". I think most garage owners in Europe, have "Kin" in Norfolk, just note next time you fill up over there, they nearly ALL have 6 fingers on each hand. When i queried this,i was told it so you did not drop any small change..... Love Norfolk really...All that Limestone to the Sugarbeet factories "Campaigns" late Autumn/Christmas.... Winter Harvest!! :xThumb: :xThumb: :xThumb: :xThumb: (y)

PS. If you are in Norfolk, winter time, and you see a bonfire in a remote Spinny,DO NOT GO NEAR IT. If you do,you may find Ladies ? and Men cavorting around..."BARE GOLLY!!".. Well....So i have been told..... by a mate...:xrofl::xdoh::xdoh::xdoh::xdoh::xdoh: You understand......

Been using Safefill for years, NEVER had trouble filling them abroad.

likewise i carry 2 x10 kg safefill cylinders and have filled them in many locations in Spain , Portugal , France and Belguim .
I have two stainless steel pigtails and hand wheel propane connections making it easy to unscrew and refill without even taking them out of the locker .

I've bought a 19l safefill bottle, I've only filled it once (1st time of use only 15l is recommended). I went and asked before I used the pump, in my local morrisons, and the attendant said "yes, as long as it is a safefill bottle". Most Morrisons allow you to fill safefill cylinders I believe. After the initial outlay, the gas is much cheaper, and the cylinder is really light.

Look for a app my lpg they list hundreds of outlets for lpg gas throughout the UK and Europe. I have 2 safefill cylinders that I have used in the UK France Spain Portugal and Germany with only one refusal a Shell Garage and just went to the next supplier.

Interesting
I've been looking at alternatives for my 2 x 11kg Calor gas bottles

I've looked at prices for Gaslow bottles (and been quoted £1,000 to install!)
GasIT
Autogas

I'd not heard of SafeFill before, it looks like a good option, however it also looks like it's difficult to obtain bottles! There are no suppliers south of Coventry or Norwich!
And they don't sell on line!
A new 10kg SafeFill bottle is available on ebay for £178 - Is that cost about right ?

Are there any other bottles I should be looking at ?
