I'm a newbie
Hello everyone,

I'm here to see if I can meet people who run their camper on cooking oil. I'm part of the production team on a television series about savvy ways to save money. I'd really like to meet people who have swapped diesel for veggie oil and hear about their experiences and any tips or tricks they might like to share.

Please do respond here, send me a direct message, or an email to owen.griffiths@multistory.tv.

Happy camping,
Owen

The issue is Owen that the latest high pressure diesel pumps can't be run on veg oil, unlike the way older diesel engines could

Don’t think it very practical if travelling in Europe doesn’t it have to be mixed and would it be emissions compliant let alone suitable for modern diesels?

No longer use it ,can't be arsed to collect wvo.
But if you need to purchase a 120Lt bio plant I can pass on details .

Try telling that to some truck drivers. Even the newer trucks many a night the workshop smelling like a bad chippy. I can confirm later model Diesel engines can run on cooking oil mixed with derv

It's not worth messing about with in my opinion, I didn't even bother putting it in my 1992 Defender (apart from a gallon I tried once :giggler:). I'm certainly not going to risk any damage to our £36k motorhome.

no good for common rail. Best used on vehicles with the Bosch pump. I used to buy the veg oil in bulk from supermarkets etc; pour straight in.

Is this a test by HMRC to see who is avoiding duty.

Say again just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean there not out to get me.

sorry for the error They're

Done 180k on my 2000 zafira started using veggie oil at 40k sold it to a guy who is still running it at 245k
He has not spent a penny on the engine. But had 2 lots of suspension and brake discs.

I suppose its very environmentally friendly as well. Once you have run the van to your destination you can then put the chips in.

There used to be a set up you could buy that used a separate tank. It started on diesel then switch to veg oil and had a warming plate on the manifold for the veg oil before it went in to engine.

I suggest contacting Funster Snowbird...

He knows about this sort of stuff...

Not recommended on modern diesel engines as if can gum up the injector pump and you don't want to do that at 3 grand a pop.

I ran a BMW 320d on veggie oil until the injection pump failed and needed to be replaced at nearly £1500. Luckily it was under warranty.

I also tried it in a Passat PD engine, which is common rail. It hated it.

So, never again, unless I put it into an old normally-aspirated diesel engine, but then we’re all going to be locked up soon if we drive one of them...s

Have run my 1991 Eriba on veggy oil - no problem in the Summer but harder to start in Winter....and it does smell

Farmfoods do 10 litres for £8...

There was a report in the 90`s (I think). about Cardiff taxis being tun on veg oil. They where being chased by HMRC for duty. At the time it was a big joke in the press and on T-V.
