Get fit and raise the heart rate I was told, cyclings good for you.

I was out on the local down hill trails last Sunday.
It was a bit slick but not too bad.

On the one trail you go between two trees over a bit of a lump and you are unsighted of the other side.

Anyway doing a reasonable speed I was dragged off the bike and went head over heels.
Just as if someone had grabbed my right arm.

When I got up I looked to see a small fallen tree with the top snapped off it.
I then realised it had gone up my sleeve and gashed my fore arm.

I hope this wasn’t some dim wit that had set it as a trap as there gave been incidents of objects being laid on the trails.

If the top of the tree hadn’t been snapped off I’d have just brushed past it.

Anyway a trip to A and E and I’m better off to the tune of some stitches 😊

Still recovering 3 weeks after going back on my trials bike😂😂
Have found out that when you get older you don’t bounce as good😂😂

As I posted I hope it wasn’t some idiot laying traps.

I couldn’t figure out why the top of the tree was snapped off 🤷‍♂️
It could of been much worse.

Still I’ll get my lad to pull the stitches out in a couple of days time 👍😊

Keep telling the wife it’s good for you
she still says no won’t bother 😂

I bought some arm/ elbow protection for myself and the wife after she fell off her bike damaging her elbow twice in a couple of years.

My friends children bought him a flashy expensive electric trail bike for his 70th birthday. First ride out hit a bump, flew over the handlebars and broke his arm and collar bone.
Stick to what you know. Anyone want to buy a cheap trail bike.
Phil

I think the roads are a lot safer, everybody I know with a trail bike has come off on rough land. My mate sneered at me for buying a road bike when he'd just bought a 1970's scrambler, he smugly said I don't fancy having my bones broken thank you..
Couple of months later he came off and broke his wrist! 🤣

Well Rich you are catching me up, with age comes mortality if you were younger or more adgyl you could have chopped the tree down before it got you🙂
Anyway stick to things for your age I have my grandads bath chair in the shed🤣

Hope it heals soon! So you can do some more silly stunts 👍

OUUUUUUUCCCCHHHHHHH ....

Don't you dare pull the stitches out too early otherwise it will open up again and then it'll be even longer healing.

As Mel says you've got to leave it longer to heal, last year I had stitches in my leg removed after
7 days and the wound popped open again. The older you get the longer it takes to heal.

Yup, it's not just about the surface skin, the underneath needs to heal which takes longer, when I had my carpal tunnel op on my right hand it didn't take too long to heal, but the one on the left hand, not long after, took quite a bit longer.

I had some minor surgery on my stomach so I could have two bellybuttons, which obviously involved some stitches.
I was sat over my computer working at my desk and , as you do, needed a bit of a stretch.
Pop, blood and gory gurts all over my keyboard and desk, but a quick trip to the local hospital and all stitched up and back in action.
The odd part was to get a replacement keyboard I had to return the old one even though they were told what had happened.
So we put it in a "human organs" container and had it couriered back to IT Dept.

I cut my finger badly years ago, a nurse stitched it back up at Barnsley hospital "the stitches will dissolve" she said confidently. About 4 weeks later they still hadn't dissolved at all and each thread had a red ring round it where it went in my finger, they started itching like mad too so I cut the stitches and pulled them out with long nosed pliers 😇👌 felt better straight away and about 2 days later the holes had completely healed up.

Sam, our G/Son, does a lot of that down hill stuff, have seen vidios ,absolutely frightening stuff , to me anyway, of him racing . He goes all over the country.
But!
He has this "body armour" stuff he wears under his shirt, before he puts his shirt on , he looks like a member of the Armed offenders squad, of SWAT I think is the modern counter part. It protects his arms chest back and more importantly his neck

Recently he was in a cycle shop when a Rep came in. Full Face Safety Helmets ? this fella had them £150, retail for £400, Sam persueded him to part with it to him for the wholesale price £150

After seeing the damage you guys have done to yourselves enjoy a hobby I will stick to scrabble and crosswords

I have broken more bones in bike accidents than any other aspect of my life, but they were only ever short term hinderances. Compare that to the 3 in my back, in the safety of a motor vehicle, and I take cycling to be far safer. Mind you, all these years later, ALL the previous breaks remind me when it is cold and damp.

Getting older, you are supposed to get wiser, not so sure with some of us

Regarding leaving the stitches in.

We live next door to a doctor and he said to remove after 10 days so I guess that’s what I’ll do.

Also I couldn’t believe what the nurse told me when he was stitching me up.

The equipment comes in a pack so needle, clamp, scissors and tweezers all good quality stainless are thrown away after one use.

He said he can use upto 6 packs in a normal working day.
Incredible waste in my opinion.

So if you are continuing cycling when you move house it will be a prerequisite that the new property is next door to a doctors or hospital.(y)

Yup, crazy wasteful. THats why whenever I have been to hospital for repairs to self and others if they use these things, tweezer, instruments, large syringes, long bits of fancy pipe off O2 mask (V. handy for bleeding my bike brakes...) etc I just ask for them and they will hand them over FOC, may as well recycle![/QUOTE]
