I needed a site near Hornchurch and with Kelvedon Thatch closed during the winter this was the nearest Caravan Club CL available. The site is £11 per night including water and electric hook-up in February 2015 so is very affordable. Security is good with a high pair of double gates which obscures the view into the site. You phone up for the security code the night before your trip. In winter there is a hard standing area but in summer there is a grassy area which can be used. Water to the pitches is restricted to one tap from the stable block as the rest are turned off to prevent freezing during winter. You will need a very long hose or other means to fill your tank in winter therefore. There is a chemical toilet disposal point which is a toilet just inside the gates which is also used for grey water disposal. Grey water disposal from motorhomes is therefore laborious as the tank will have to be emptied and then transferred to be put down the toilet.
The site is described as being at Romford whereas it is outside Upminster and pretty close to the M25 though far enough away for there not to be a noise problem. 1 infrequent bus route right outside and another a 25 minute walk away after turning right outside the site and right again at the top of the hill which has buses every 15/20 minutes to either Lakeside shopping centre or Romford Market at each end of the service with Upminster and Hornchurch on the route - No 370. You need an Oyster card before you go as London Transport buses don't take money and with no card they can't carry you. Trains available to London from Upminster and Hornchurch on the District Line, and a quicker service via British Rail from Romford and Gidea Park.
